Have to admit I am not terribly experienced with shim/bucket setups as I have always had screw type adjusters.

Reshimmed last week (all four) and got my shims (intakes were at .003) bunch of other stuff at the same time...got it all back together and it lit up on the first kick. Good news...

Noticed that it seemed to have some extra valvetrain noise. Tore the top back off and rechecked all my work. While rechecking I noticed that my .005 feeler had molded to a .002...so in fact, was .007. How stuff like that happens in workbench drawer is beyond me.

Exhausts were spot on at .011. Intakes were proper drag at .007 and just a tiny drag at .006. If I slid the .005 through, I could feel the lobe, but not bu much.

So - A) I figure this is where my extra noise was coming from. :bonk: I dont think this is a problem other than they are closing tightly. C) I figure it will quite down quickly as everything seats in.

I feel silly tearing it apart again and reshimming for .001. I can deal with the extra valvetrain noise...but will order new shims and tear it apart again if need be...only a 30-45 min job.

Thoughts?

Personally, if it's out of spec, it's out of spec. But that's just me.

But since your getting enough noise to cause you to stop and pull it back apart, sounds like it would be good to re-do.

I would expect if you leave it as is, you'll get pre-mature wear on your cam.

Jim.

If you have to ask the question you already know the answer.

Re-shim, try to get them closer to .004 than .006/.007 and you will be golden.
