Hey, first post here. Just looking for some opinions/thoughts on these two bikes (2011 both, the six days gas gas ec300 and the husqvarna te449). Im after a more dirt orientated bike thats plate-able just for getting to nearby trails and making the registration process easy and legit. Dirt riding I always had jap 125s and havent tried any of the newer fourstrokes. Always have a designated streetbike so commuting and sporting ashphalt rides are covered.

Reviews for both bikes seem mostly positive. The TE has the BMW linkage setup that apparently makes the bike want to stand up more on throttle and mid corner, does this make it more of a bear in the tight stuff? I think the 300 would be a ton of fun without feeling as big on the trails and more inline with what Im used to. The biggest issue with the ec would be premixing if I found myself far enough away to need a gas stop, any handy ideas experiences with toting along abit of oil?

Can the Gas Gas Two Stroke even be registered for the street? Don't know your rules in NS ... in the US most two strokes are hard to register unless they were grandfathered in earlier. (new laws now) The VIN gives it away, No Can Do in most places. The other issue is range. If you can find a BIG fuel tank for the Gas Gas ... then that would be my choice.

That BMW is nothing but trouble ... why do you think BMW discontinued it and pawned off all the left overs onto Husky? Did you know that in order to change the front sprocket or install a new chain ... the whole Swing Arm has to come off?

It's an idea that is old and proven NOT TO WORK. (See history of ATK and Horst Leitner ... who invented the idea)

The Gas Gas is a real dirt bike ... and proven to work. I would save some money and buy a nice used TE510 (pre BMW) or KTM 525 EXC. If you can plate off road four strokes there ... then I'd go for the Yamaha WR450F. Most reliable, best performing, low maintenance and low cost.

IMO, that happens be be plate from the factory. The bike gets traction on rough terrain better than any bike I've ever ridden and I attribute that directly to the CTS. An idea that
you say is old and proven not to work. Not only does it work, it works well. This bike has been problem free and a blast to ride, my only complaint would be the close ratio tranny
but since I hardly ever ride on the street it's not that big of a deal. My 2 cents for what it's worth..............

SFrider, the bikes you are looking at are at two different ends of the dirt bike world. One is a big bore 2T off road and the other is a big bore 4T EPA compliant DS. Two different type of riding, performance and pricing. If you don’t mind carrying mixing oil in your pack and can plate a off road bike, get the Gas Gas. Outside Cali, if you can plate a off road bike then 2 or 4T doesn’t make a difference for the DMV. The 4T will have better mileage and will be more road friendly. The TE will have better traction and smoother power band if you are looking for that. As for the CTS and BMW, CTS works but is it needed on a dirt bike?? I would not own a bike that had a CTS but that’s just me as I don’t like the draw backs that system creates. BMW is the best thing to happen to Husky and in the modern era of Husky the worst.

Gas Gas if you are truly only riding a small amount of road. But make sure you are positive, if you change your mind and start spending more time on concrete the four stroke will be way better.
