Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and just bought a 2005 450. Great bike but I like to do the maintenance myself. I did not get a manual with the bike but I really want to change the oil. I know my buddy who has a 426 had to drain it on the bottom and fill up the frame but i couldn't find any plugs in the frame. Does the oil just go in on the left side of the engine block? is there a dip stick? What kind of oil should I use (yamalube?). I would think full synthetic would be the best for the bike, 5w-40? Thanks in advance!

Here's a link to the oil change procedure:

And here, a manual:

Try to avoid oils that have a wide spread between the "winter" viscosity and their full grade. Choose a 10w-40 instead of a 5w-40, or a 20w-50 rather than a 10w-50. The wider the range, the more the oil will likely depend on additives to accomplish that, and it's the viscosity index additives that are most prone to fail. The engine oil also lubes the trans, and most automotive engine oils aren't up to that job.
