I have had my 07 kx250f for a few months now and I'm wondering if I should sell it to get a 150 sx. I'm riding mostly trails which I don't like the 250f on. My bug question is it worth it to get a 150sx and does it do better on trails? Thanks

I just want to know if a 2 stoke 150 is better for trails than a kx250f.

if you are riding more trails ,look at the 150 xc.I race 1 in a harescramble series with good results.i am sure it is lighter and set up for trails.really depends on your size though.I am 155 pds and it pulls me around fine

I am no super experience trails guy but one thing I do not like on trails is the amount of engine breaking from a 4-stroke riding in the bush.

I have a 150SX and I have ridden a KX250F back to back with it and if you find the 4t unstable then you will find the 150 very unstable. Of course this is if the suspension and brakes are in good order on your bike. If your suspension/brakes are shagged that will probably be why your bike feels off. I found the KX250F felt faster and much more stable on the trails than the 150 does. I prefer the 2t on a track though. That said I would never swap my 150 because the fun factor for me is huge.

So what is the weight limit for a 150? I ride 90% trails, 10% track. Looking to do about 50-50 this year though. Currently riding a 250XCF with a big bore kit, but really interested in a 2T. So its a 150 or a 200 XC for me real soon.... but how strong are they? How will they compare to my 250?
BTW, I'm 6'0 and 200lbs (athletic) without gear. Anyone of similar size/weight ridden these bikes?

I'm 6'6, 205lb, just got a 150sx, jury is still out to be honest. Hands down it's super fun, but if I were to race or compete, it would not be the best bike for me. Switching back and forth to my 250f, the 150 certainly has more abrupt power, and maybe just as much or more, but does not compare in terms of torque. I have to be careful with uphills and sand, making sure my RPM's are up. I cannot be lazy like I am on my 250f, have to be in the right gear.
So, a lot of adjustment yet to go. Super fun though. I'm a slow beginner really, and not a ton of seat time on the new bike yet, so take all of that with a grain of salt.

How does it compare to your 250f so far? I am so torn on this 150 sx thing. Help us out.

Mdbradfo, a 200 would be a better choice for the woods than the 150, more comparable torque and power wise. I agree that you may have set up issues if the kx is giving you problems. The 150 will not feel planted like the 250f. 2 strokes ride on top, floating over stuff, while 4 strokes ride in the trail and go thru stuff, at least from a feel standpoint.
The problem with running a moot 250f in the woods is that it stalls easy, very on/off power delivery with the engine braking. I think you would find a 200 very easy to ride In the woods, allowing you to ride smoother and more confident.
If you are an aggressive rider, the 150 will work, but like said, it won't have the torque of the 200 or 250f.

I raced my 2007 KX250F for a couple of years and the bike was very stable and carved very well on the trail. The greatest mod I made to that bike was the Rekluse. Kept engine breaking down and stalling to a minimum. I would like to try a KTM150SX, I've already tried the 125SX and it was fun but no way I would take it over the 250F. Hands down easier to ride a 250f over small bore on the trails. I would keep the 250f for now and tune the suspension it needs to be valved softer front and rear, and maybe try a Rekluse in it.
