Background of me- I own a 2009 crf 450. Local A rider ability. Looking for something to play around on.

I'm currently looking at a 2004 RM 250 for $1200. (I think it will need a new subframe) I'm also looking at an 05 YZ 250 for $1800(needs nothing).

I'd like to know the pros and cons of the RM. The price difference is quite a lot for only a 1 year older bike. It has been hardly rode too. The 05 was rode, but very well taken care of.

kind of a tough choice u got there i have a 04 RM 250 and love it alot of my buddies that have YZ 250s they swing a leg over mine cause they like the lower end power and how the RM corners ive rode theirs and was still mpressed but at the end of the day i still wanna ride my 04 the thing i noticed with mine compared to a yz is the RM flattens out at the topend with the YZ the topend keeps pulling.... but after i put a pipe and reeds on my Rm it cleared that up........as for things that ive had go wrong with my RM i havent had a lick of trouble with the motor i always keep up maintence on my bike and keep it clean never had a problem the only thing ive done the 3 yrs ive owned it was steering stem bearings linkage bearings and hadda replace clutch side case gasket thats it. and i do a topend every year ......the YZ has a strong motor to u cant go wrong with the 250 and the 05 has aluminum frame.....thats my two cents if it was me i would prob get the RM but u cant go wrong with the YZ either im sure u would be happy with either one and thats purdy cheap for the bikes id prob would buy both.... arond here clapped out 04-06 RMs are goin for 2200 and the YZs re goin for 2500

i went from a 05 yz250 all modded out to a pr2 04 rm250 and then to a 08 rm250...go with the rm! the yz has such boring handling and motor...the pr2 04 i had was down right scary! in a good way...such a surge of power. and the handling of the rm was like and is a razor....u can make it take such an inside line on the power..the yz seem to want to stay upright in the turns and really didnt provide much excitement....
especially if this is going to be a play/race bike...do the rm....and compared to the 08, the 04 doesnt feel any different in handling if the susp is setup for u and working right.

yes about the yz wanting to stand upright its hard to take inside lines with the YZ especially if theres a jump right outta the corner
