I know my 1996 XR600R has a slightly tweaked subframe, I just can't figure out which way it needs to go in order to be straight- the right or left side?

Tell tale sign my new/used bike has a prob.

Ok so if I look at the rear most portion of my subframe I can see one side is slightly higher than the other and one is skewed (less that vertical. as evidenced by the flat mounting portion of the rear tab that should be vertical). I can't figure out if one side is higher or one side is lower and which way it needs to go. Plus, anyone have ideas on how to get it bent back into shape?

And if I look down from the top...one of the ends looks like it sticks out further than the other. It's not the camera, one side is a tad bit longer than the other. Again, is it supposed to be like this? Hoping someone has their rear fender off and can look and compare, maybe post pics?

I went out with the digital calipers and measured on the same spot on each side, they are the same length from the pictured. Still a twist though, not sure which side? With mot of the scrapes in the paint on the leftside, I'm thinking left side is bent worse.

Yours isn't too bad as it actually looks pretty straight. Force works better than blows to get it bent back somewhat straight. Bracing the frame for bending isn't an easy thing. I've used 2x4's, 4x4's, and several sizes of steel pipe.

I had the same fracture and I posted up about welding it. I've also had cracks down near where the kickstand flange attaches to the tubing and the right foot peg mount.

Other than hard riding and crashes, I feel that placing a hold down while in the truck causes issues. It's a lot easier to attach to the left as opposed to the right due to the pipe. All the bouncing in the back of the truck adds up over time.

Yes mine also has the cracked kickstand flange. The right foopeg mount looks good, but we'll know more when I take my wire wheel to strip all the paint.

bend rear tubes after welding the cracks, I had the same issues causing my rear fender to be all tilted...

I also had the cracked kickstand mount, thats common...weld up and strengthen , heat up and bend straight. Grind and paint!

If your rear fender is reasonably straight, bolting it on will give a good visual indicator of which frame tube is bent and by how much.

Yeah did the fender thing but the fender is warped from exhuast heat, so no luck doing it that way.
