Rode yesterday and it ran pretty good on the track. I have not experienced any bogging on the track, it is just when whiping it idle-to-wot so maybe that shouldn't concern me to much as peeps have said. The plug that is in it has been in it for probably 20+ hours (since I bought the bike). I am sore from a fall yesterday so probably won't ride or work on it today but I have 2 new plugs for it so I will change the plug out before next ride and then check it afterwards and post a pick. Also, it starts very easy. 3 kicks most with choke after sitting for a week and no throttle. One kick every time without choke or hot start and has cooled after the initial warm-up at the track. 2 kicks yesterday, first without hot start and second with hot start after the front wheel slid out and I went down and was huffing and puffing and not getting good leverage on it.

I'd still run that plug it's fine it will turn tan or brown when you get the right temperature of burn inside the chamber.. put the 168 mj and 42 pj and start at the top with the needle and move the clip down to fine tune it to the least amount of bbbrrr-pop-pop-pop if you know what I mean LOL a hour meter with a tachometer to see RPM's helps to set the fuel screw http://www.thumperta...ircuit-setting/

My 06' has 12.5:1 piston, stage 2 Hotcam, Jd jet kit, and the ap mod you have a link to. Runs great, starts easy, has lots of power and great response. The JD kit comes with 2 needles (one red and one blue), I think 4 main jets and 2 o-rings (one thicker than the other). I ride at the same elevation you do. I use the blue needle right now based on the temperature (50* or less) on the recommended clip position with the 185 main. I also use the thicker o-ring instead of the wire as suggested in the ap mod. If your not going to use the JD jet kit, the NCYQ needle is suppose to be a good one ( it's found stock in the 06' but not the 05'). Hope I helped! I also have a book for my bike that covers the 05'-06' and shows the differences so if you need anything I can help you out.

Yes this helps. I am leaning hard towards the 08 OEM 12.5:1 piston with my 02 cam over the JE 13.5:1 as It looks like that will add longevity to an aging motor and keep down cost as I get Honda parts at dealer net which is important to me as I don't race and would like to retire before I already have one foot in the coffin. I will check out the 06 needle as well. I am no expert at carb tuning but learning a lot as I go. I have never had to do this much with my RM250 so it is a challenge. I want it to be right and not just set up in a way the is masking a flaw. Thanks for your help!!!

Just know that if you go with the JD needle setup you cant just switch it back to the OEM needle without changing the main jet too. The main jet that goes with the JD kit is way way bigger because the JD needle has a much larger end.

I am not getting the JD kit. It is a great kit but It is $76.00 and I just don't need all those jets and needles. I can get the 06 NCYQ needle for $12.00 and a couple more jets for $7.00 so it is not cost effective for me. Plus anything OEM I buy new and find I don't need I can return.
