Alot of guys are using a 50 for the leak. As for a pilot it depends. Every bike is different just like the areas we all ride in. Whats the temp there, the elevation and what is your air/fuel screw adjusted to? I started w/ a 42p in mine. JD jet kit and everyone on here will tell you to use a 42p as I was told too. It wasn't working for my bike, so I went to a 45p and still had a little bog. Yesterday I put in a 48p, adjusted the fuel screw 2 turns out and the bog is finally gone! A JD Kit isn't always the answer and the jets everyone else recommends isn't either because every bike isn't the same and the area you ride it in isn't either. You can get a good guidline to start w/ from my sizes and anyone elses on here. It seems the 42 pilot is the magic number for these bikes though!! Good luck bro!

Most of the time, an off idle bog is caused by a too lean pilot circuit. If fuel screw richening doesn't help, go up 1 to 2 sizes on your pilot jet and/or raise your needle(lower clip position). My advice would be to fully sort your pilot, main jet, and needle position before doing any accel pump mods (except for timing).

Stock leak is 55 and is usually fine. If you found a 65 in there it means someone changed it and may have also dorked with the pump timing too.

Does the leak have to be right on point, or can it be with in a few sizes?? Rusts the I one her I haven't touched... What does it do exactly? Or control

simplified but: when the pump squirts fuel it can go 2 different directions, 1 , into the carb throat which fuels the engine. 2. through the "leak" jet.

So the bigger the leak jet the less fuel goes into the motor, opposite of what you'd describe the other jets in the carb. If you want more fuel to spray to the motor you use a SMALLER leak jet,

some of the confusion comes when guys see the R carb or CCC mods for the X using 70leak. So they think installing a bigger one is better? or they are fighting a bog and think a bigger leak will help, not knowing it's the opposite.

the difference between a stock 55 and 50 (oft recommended, if you have to buy one) isn't enough worth making your hands smell like gas in my opinion.

I pinch the stock leak jet closed on the bikes that I work on.

Plenty of people that haven't tried it tell me that it can't work, it will have a rich bog, etc.

It works amazingly well, and delivers crips, snappy bog-free performance. It is also free.

Some bikes had the leak blocked from the factory. It's at higher rpms say racing 9-12k at 3/4 to full throttle constantly at the track where more bypass from a bigger leak (less pump effect) is needed to keep things crisp. Why the R model comes with a bigger leak. The X's role in life is cracking the throttle at lower rpms where the more fuel can help from lean bog. The best setup is an externally adjustable leak circuit if your getting really serious. But for those that can't even get their pj and screw tuned right I wouldn't add the extra confusion of another variable. Most of us just wanna ride not dork around with jetting,

65 leak jet is stock on Cali models made before 2006. Change it to a 55.
