My truck's (Chevy 2500 HD Diesel) battery goes dead about every other day now. When I get into my truck in the mornings I put my key into ignitiion and all is fine...then when I try to crank it over my radio resets to 12:00 and my battery is dead. The weird thing is I jump it with ease and starts right up. I can turn it off imediately after starting up and battery is fine then?

So far, I have checked the following:

Batterys are good - had them load tested twice
Alternator is good " " "
Tested parisitc draw from my installed amps and stereo HU - only drawing about 30 milliamps
Tested all the wiring to the battery
No corrussion on battery - batterys are only a year old

The only things I have hooked up to my truck that could possibly steal power are my AMP Steps and amps. Both checked out ok when I tested parasitic draw.

I checked to see if any lights are staying on inside my cab and nothing

I have left nothing on........

So, this is where you guys come in....what do I do now? Is my internal computer staying on????

I talked to an installer / electrician who I trust and for about $80 he will pull all my fuses, one by one, to try and figure out the issue....

Any suggestions out there???

Thanks!!!!!!!!

I was hoping I didn't have to log into several different forums to get answers to my questions.

What year is your truck? If a NBS 2007.5 and newer -stereo/amps could be the the problem depending on how you picked up the power/remote on.

The Best place for info on the Duramax is the Dieselplace.com A clue for you if a NBS is "RAP"

My friends a mechanic and he had two diesel silverados come in with similar problems. They would just randomly not be able to start due to dead batteries even though the batteries were new, the charging system was okay, and found minimal parasitic draw. I believe he said something about a service bulletin that came out to correct the problem. I believe something needed reprogrammed, your best bet may be to bend over and take it to the steelership and tell them what your problem is and what you did to diagnose and test so far.

I'd check battery connections and grounds first. Make sure everything is clean and tight-not just visually, but physically remove the connections and clean them with a wire brush, and retighten them.

Next I'd do a draw test on the starter-might have a bad spot in the starter that is causing a draw at such a level that the battery's cannot overcome, but the extra juice from a jump or boost is enough. Had this happen on a tractor of mine. Drove me nuts until I finally replaced the one thing I hadn't....and haven't had a problem since then (4 years now).
