OK is putting a 2000 Yamaha Blaster engine in a 1974 Ty 175 frame cheating?
I do not ever plan on running it in Ahrma.
The Blaster engine is based on the old DT engine.
I mostly run the NYACT trials in New York
And these are the classes

Prehistoric - 1971 and older
Historic - 1972 through 1977
Classic - 1978 and newer twin shock and drum brake
Modern - 1991 and older monoshock and/or disc brake.
NOTE: To preserve a vintage experience, all bikes must be air-cooled

The frame is a 1975 as is the rest of the bike orther then the motor which is a 2000

The times I've seen friends put non-trials motors in Trials Frames, they end up with a bike that responds better MAYBE at the higher power and higher speeds but poorly at the crawling speeds needed for competition. But then, at the speeds and power that the new engine runs best, they reach what might be called a "Frame Geometry Limit" where the speed is higher than the optimum control speed the bike was designed for.

It can be a fun project, but I have not yet seen one that was better for Trials nor better for faster riding than the bike the new motor was intended for. It doesn't mean it's not possible, just that I have never seen one that was an all around improvement.

This is the frame that the motor is going in to.
It is frame number 2 from the jig
The forkes are from a Ty350 mono and the front and bake wheels are from a yz125

The motor is being built out of a Blaster 200
It is getting a 3mm stroker crank and 6mm overbore jug.
It should be 262cc If I got the math right.
The brass wieght for the flywheel is maded and installed on the flywheel.

Is it cheating?

But is cheating more then the bikes that ride in the per65 class

Buy it
Build it
Take it out of the shed.
Just ride and have fun.

I've seen a guy at some events in our area with a 315r chassis that he put a blaster motor in. He converted it to dual shocks, and made his own drum brake hubs.

Your bike MIGHT be considered a "SPECIAL" but with a 2000 motor I'm not sure what it is. I think in the UK they call them "Mongrels"

what is the benefit of the Blaster motor ? Do the gearing, flywheel, porting work for trials? The TY 175 is a great trial engine.

The Reason for using a Blaster motor is that it fill fit into a Ty175 frame. You do have to move the stock motor mounts a little.
This all started with wanting to make a TY175 into a true 200cc motor and what does it take.
I have a big bore jug from England on my Ty175, but the liner is scary thin and it can not be bored agian if needed.
A Blaster motor is 198cc with a 66mm bore, so it has a longer stroke then a stock TY motor.
There are liners for the Blaster that go all the way out to 74mm.
There is only so far you can bore a TY jug.
A motor with a longer stroke will have more bottem end grunt with the right porting.
So before I do all the machine work to put a Blaster Crank, Rod, Piston, into a Ty engine cases I thought I would just try a complete Balster motor.
I plan on using a new liner with the porting spec. from a Ty250 Pinky
The Trans in the blaster is a close raito box not the wide spacing that a road bike or MX bikes have.
Ty engine parts are starting to become hard to get and blaster motor part are easy to get. A plus in my book.
And sometimes I wish my Ty had some more power Anyone that has tried a 3th gear run up a muddy section or a super big hill climb. Is wishing the same same
