How far does everyone go in between oil changes? I try to change my oil/filter ever 1500 miles, is that too frequently? Also what brands/weights of oil are people using? I use the suzuki 10w-40 4stroke oil.

round about 1000 miles is what you will hear from most people on here. Think the suzuki manual says to change every 4000.

i use castrol 10w 40 semi synthetic, try to change round about 1000 miles too

Just curious why? I can see maybe changing filter at 500m but oil? It didn't even close to breaking down at 500m. Unless you put only 500m/season (unlikely with your 42k total)

Bike still covered so stick with suzuki specs... 500 mile oil changes?!?!?! That could easily be multiple changes a week. Too often for me but I am not off roading my sm.

Oil analysis is a good indicator for change intervals.....http://www.thumperta...e-oil-analysis/

Variables such as type of use and riding climate will have an effect on frequency of oil changes...

Sorry , i change the oil every 500 miles the filter every 3rd change. i do take it out to have a look at and drain the oil off. I mostly use it to go the 16 miles to work and back every day
and now and again i go to Wales for 2 days of off roading. May time i swop over the wheels , forks and put the 320 disc and 4 pot caliper on for some SM fun so you can see
were my mileage comes from. Anyway its cheeper to change the oil all the time than a engine rebuild

Every 1500 to 2000 km, oil and filter every time. I buy good quality oil filters in bulk, so I always have them in. Oil, good quality motorbike oil, nothing too special, but not too cheap either.

Use the bike 5 days a week, 60km each time, and some weekend use.

21,000km on my bike and still going strong.
