i bought this 98 for a parts bike and extra set of wheels for my 05. it has a supertrapp on it to! brand new back tire. new battery. moose hand guards. skid plate. i could not say no at 300 bucks! even came with the title. well it runs great but it dont go. the gears grind when u let off the clutch in first and second. i am in the middle of stripping it down to take the engine appart and see how bad it is. i might fix it up if it does not cost too much. should be fun right. the wheels are dented pretty bad so i am going to try to beat the crap out of them. any chance it might just be the fork and not the gears? this guy used it like a dirt bike. it is banged up bad and has 2 cracks in the frame. it needs some tlc and then maybe a hooker or 2!!

Try the shifter fork first - it is accessible without taking the engine apart or even out of the frame. In case of Lukas´ bike the culprit indeed was the fork. Regardless of the overall condition of the bike you simply cannot have made a bad purchase for 300 bucks!

Even if you put a few into it, still a great buy. I'd sure like to find one for myself, since my wife has claimed our 05.

Since you dont have a manual, go to Bikebandit.com and try looking it up. That should help. They have exploded type pics.

Take off the sprocket, then you´ll see an oval shaped cover. http://www.advrider....t=239519&page=5, post #66

yea i got to that but i did not realize it could be causing the problem. i did not take the spring off to see if it was bent, but it looked straight. how much bend would throw it off and am i looking for a bend in the shaft or the fork. i still dont understand how this would make my first and secend gears not ingage all the way and grind

I´m no mechanic and I share your concerns. On the other hand it would be a shame not to try simple things first before tearing into the engine completely ... If I were sure and had the "play-money", I´d have bought a clean tarded DR for 1000 Euro (1250 bucks) weeks ago. That baby won´t shift.
