This is a 2003 yzf426 with lots of goodies . The bike has 15hrs on it . I don't know much about these as I ride a xr650l . What should I expect , and are these reliable. Thanks . Oh yeah picked it up for 1800.00

Very reliable bike. Some people have issues starting them, but if you can figure out a good starting procedure quick, you'll be set. I had a 426 and never had any issues starting it. Looks like you got a good bike

I think you got some wrong info....i thought they stop producing 426 in 02 and 03 went to 450

Your bike is an '02 or earlier machine. Check the 10th digit on the VIN to get the exact year.

Looks like it's in great shape. May as well put the XR up for sale, you won't be riding it much now (been there done that).

Doesn't that year come with the auto decompression thing??
If so, there is not much to starting it.

If it doesn't, find TDC, then push it just past TDC using compression release on handlebar, then give her a good kick!
With my '99 400F, before starting it helped to pump the throttle 3 times before starting (Note; that seems to change with different years; your '02 might not need any priming.)

No, all 426's were manual decompression, although a good many have been converted. And it's NOT TDC, it's the start of the compression stroke, the "hard spot".

Starting procedure:

Yeah, got my terminology wrong, but like you said just PAST the "hard spot" is where ya want to kick it.
(on my 400F the decompression lever allowed me to get just past that hard spot)
