Looking at getting my 85 pilot a crf150r, he is pretty fast on yz, but ever since he rode a friends 150 he wont shut up about it. How is the reliability? What about machines that were ran hard, should I run away or they are bullet proof as long as clean filters clean fluids were ran? Concerned about 4 stroke repairs but we have never had any issues with out 250f's or 450f's. Any year to stay away from on these bikes? Trying to buy as new as possible I hate used bikes but cant afford new this time around

Biggest issue is valves. Many don't keep an eye on them until one drops. If your rider is on the limiter often then valve adjustments are needed or checked often. The cam gear moves resulting in a slight ticking sound. People pass this off as valves or cam chain noise then a valve gets bent. These are the small issues with the motor. Overall it is reliable and fast in the hands of fast riders. Set up is a big problem when people talk about these bikes being slow.

The 2008 my son races has 60hrs and we never had any issues with it but I always checked the valves every 10-12hrs and oil every 4-5hrs. It's been very reliable.

Changed the piston 10hrs ago just for the sake of changing it.

Seems to me the 150r is one of the more reliable 4 stroke motocrossers.

the bike is great, as long as you're not an idiot. do your simple checks and enjoy. FYI, the valve check is 99% the same as the 250 write ups on this site, look it over and you'll see it's no big deal. Some people actually put a spot of weld on the cam so it doesn't spin, just be sure to be the same size spot of weld on the exact opposite side to exclude a balancing issue. if it's just for the woods then don't worry. I've only heard of them spinning on asphault (sumo bikes)

We only ride tracks, I ride some trails but the boy hates them. After reading some of these threads I may just hold out for a 2012, I prefer new, I figure if I blow 2k on a used and it grenades on us, by the time its a rebuild the 12 is already more attractive for costs

I bought my 07 used and rode it for 3 seasons. Only had to shim the exhaust valves once. I ride track and trails and ride it fairly hard, but do regular maintenance as well, which I think is key on any 4 stroke. I am selling mine this spring as I have decided to go back to a 250. I'm going to miss the light weight bike, but I am looking forward to a little more power,

I can't speak for the 2012 models, but I know on the older models jetting and carb set up is key to making these run like they should. If it's set up correctly, these bikes are great.

Yeah I have heard that, I would deff do a day with a race tuner here to dial the jeftting and suspension for my kid, he is pretty sensitive to bike set up and rips when things are dialed. Getting frustrated looking at used models, they dont scuff like 250f & 450f's from boots squeezing or show wear on the cases like the big bikes so it is hard to tell how much they were ridden when all cleaned up. Some people I get the impression have beat the shit out these bikes and just want to get rid of them, trying to find a chick who bought one but got scared or lost interest. Thanks for all tips, we are deff going to get a 150r just not sure yet which or new or what, still shopping

New is $5000 and used is $2000, there's alot of things you can and will do for the saved money. Roll a 2012 out of the showroom and it's worth maybe $3000. Sure it's a newer bike but for these bikes new only means not correctly set-up.

What do you guys think a a really good used 2007 bought for a GF is worth? It looks like its been ridden for half a summer maybe the full, not a scuff on it, the stock tire is half worn if not ready to replaced but still usable I guess. Everything is stock, even the grips and they look new. He won't go below 2500 and I have an option for a two 2007's and a 2008 between 1900 & 2300. I guess I am thinking doing a top end on the others cause they have hours makes it worth biting the bullet for the really nice one. Thoughts?

I bought last year a 2008 RB jetted, custom red bull graphics and with a hole shot device for $2400. Did I mention it had less than 1 hr on it! It was better than showroom as all the bearings were greased. That 2007 is worth $2000,,, well in three months. There are several 2007's here for $1500.

How many hrs?? Aftermarket parts (cams, valves, valves seats,,,)?? Type of riding?? Maintance records, do they look like they had been taken care of?? Many motors I know have alot of hrs on them and all run great.

Got another guy with an 07, very low hours, its pretty obvious the bike was never ridden bone stock, he wants to trade for my 08 yz250f. He thinks its a straight across trade I think his bike plus 400 bucks is fair, not a screaming deal, but fair. What you guys thoughts? Also, will the quick shot fit on the 150r's carb? I keep reading about the bog and I happen to have a quick shot sitting on my bench not being used.

I bought a 2008 crf150rb (big wheel) With quick shot 3 & FMF pipe for $2100.00. It had approx. 20 hours on it. This bike Rips!!!
I also bought a 2008 crf150r (small wheel) for my other daughter for $1900.00. (stock). It had appox. 15 hours. This bike also Rips!!!
Very reliable bike as long as you keep the valves adjusted, air filter clean and oil changed.

Yeah people are asking too much around here. I am looking at one now that looks like it has low hours, has the rekluse pro z clutch, full FMF exhaust, new tires, Renthal bars, new sproket & chain. I have him down to 2300-2400, but he claims his 10 yr old just farted around on it and never took to it, but he has two very fast teens, so I am not sure I trust him. Looked at another that looks like it was ridden and put away everytime, thinkn about offering $1,000 and take my chances.

You know I keep looking but I get tripped up. Was looking at one that ran very well, but the plastics were scratched up, the frame was not grey but silver from all the boot rubbing, had aFMF pipe. new chain / sprokets but he wanted 1900. Looking at another today that looks like it was ridden less, plastics in better shape, has a new clutch, zeta lever, bars, graphics kit and he wants 2200, which if it is better seems to make sense to me? Other people are idiots with their prices, I keep telling them there is a reason you have been trying to sell for months, cause your a moron on your price. I may wait to spring if I cant find the deal I want

Spring becomes harder to find good ones. By June/July trash is only available. Then the cycle starts again come September. In between time a couple will show up if the child out performs in the mini class.
