While your fuel mileage may be better than a half ton, your cost per mile of operation is not.

Fuel mileage isn't the only expense in the owning/operating of a truck.

I own a one-ton dually.  It doesn't leave the garage unless it's necessary.  Much, much cheaper, more comfortable and easier to drive the car.

Get the diesel if you want to tow the trailer like nothing is back there and pull any hill at pretty much any speed you want. Once you tow with a diesel you will never want to tow with gas again.

Not taking the time to read all the posts.

But I have 2500 dodge with the Hemi and tow my 7 x 16 enclosed trailer with it. If it's flat it's no problem. When pulling mountain passes or if there is a big head wind don't expect to do much over 50 or 55 MPH unless you want to do 5,000 RPM and get about 7 MPG.

Average tank is about 13 MPG unloaded around town, I posted all my mpg's in the other gas pickup thread

One thing you may want to consider being up in Canada to is how diesel can gel in cold conditions.   Usually the winter blends and keeping a full tank help with this.  Also having a heated garage will keep that from happening while you are at home.

If I could I would love to get a diesel, but my little Taco will do for now.

I just had to put in my two cents but I own both, hemi and cummins (5.9) It is pretty hard to stack up the diesel to gas but when it all comes down too it unless you are pulling alot like everyday lots od f miles a gas pickup is cheaper to run even if it is a free to trade up since fuel is more a gallon and oil and repairs cost more. But with almost 400hp gas motors and they do pull pretty good.

Too bad ford no longer produces the 7.3 diesel. Unstoppable. The 6.0s had an EGR design flaw that made them unreliable.

Proof of how bad the 6.0L is.  It makes everybody forget of how poor of the engine the 7.3L was.

I love these kinds of statements that completely ignore the fact that many "imports" are built here, and so many "domestics" are built in Canada and Mexico...

A large percentage of Chevy trucks are built in Silao, Mexico. A large percentage of Ford trucks are built in Argentina, Brazil, and Canada.

Toyota Tundras are made in San Antonio, Texas, and are in fact in the top ten "vehicles with most American content" as listed by cars.com.

And so what, we still own the other 42 percent and i dont care if a foreign car company builds a car here, the money still goes back to theme! just do the right thing and that is to buy American and our cars are better anyways.  But better than japan buying theme out...... and woul not that be something if chrysler draged fiat down that = no more ferrari's.  But either way i look at it i dont like what has happened and i guess gm and ford are the only truly pro American companies not.  About fiat owning over 50 percent of chrysler is not good and you should not be using that a defense, you should be more concerned, it is a major let down.  I like to support our country as much as i can and if you live here i think you should to, and another fact that pisses me off is that they tax all of our car in other countries but we dont tax theirs!

I wouldn't own a Chrysler product on a dare, even before they were Fiat owned, or when they were Obama/Bush owned, or before that when they were owned by Mercedes, or even way before when they were owned by Jimmy Carter.

"We" don't own Chrysler anymore than "we" own Toyota or Honda-they're publicly traded companies, owned, bought and sold on the stock exchange daily by individuals, funds and corporations around the globe.

If you want to worry about "American" vehicles, study "American" content and assembly location.

wow really, re read what i said. I basically agreed with you and said im not happy about it.  And yes there are still a lot of american cars and trucks assembled here in the us but EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT, THE MONEY STILL COMES BACK TO THE USA GET ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.  God dam listen up, you wanna sit here and battle it come on lets go keep it coming cause really at this point seems like you dont really respect your country and love you pos foreign cars, why are you defending theme.  once again i can not say it enough, even if a GM car is built in Canada, the money still comes back to USA because its a American owned company, get it, not hard to understand bud.  But go ahead i wanna hear your opinion.  And dont even say foreign cars are better if you say anything like that just dont even reply please.

yeah there small sized trucks, the f150 and Silverado are built here.  And even if GM car is built in Canada, it does not matter because GM is a American company and the money comes back to...... you guessed it AMERICA.  Hmmm im the one laughing now and laughing at any one who drives those little pieces of shit, they a flat out joke, they really are.  A real pickup from the big 3 make any foreign pick up look like a joke.  There is vids on here that prove it and show you how cheaply the foreign cars are built.  For example toyota tundra bed shake or also known as bed bounce. And its funny how some people just dont understand and i guess they never will......

You seem to fail to grasp the point I made in the prior post-once again:

GM isn't anymore an "American Owned" company than Honda is.

I buy my automobiles based upon quality, value, reliability and suitability for my purpose.  Currently there is two GM products (even though one has a Honda powertrain) in my stable (and they will be the last GM products I ever buy), along with two Ford's.

No foreign-badged stuff, unless you count all the foreign badged dirt-bikes.

PS-if you really respect your nation, you'd recognize it as a proper noun, and capitalize it.

And GM couldn't get rear disc brakes to work properly, was notorious for many years for for idler arm problems, breaking/cracking frames, Ford had sparkplug launching issues and ball joints that couldn't survive the warranty, Chrysler...well, we only got so much server space on TT, but you get the point.

They all have issues and shortcomings, you simply have to choose which issues will affect your intended use the least.

Me, I don't hammer my vehicles down whoops sections, so "bed bounce" wouldn't be high on my list of concerns.
