Is a full size adult going to be riding this in the dunes? If so, there isn't a whole lot that can be done to make this bike preform adequately enough to ride more than just the flat sections IMO.
I'm not sure if they make a paddle for that size rear tire (whatever it may be) and if someone does I am not sure the bike will have enough power to spin it.
If a kid or small woman is riding it then it may be a different story. My step mom had an '04 and we would use it as a spare bike on longer weekends. I rode it a few times and it did OK in the dirt where there were minimal hills (could get me where I wanted to go, but in no rush to get there), but loose sand dunes is a whole different ball game power-wise.

I think it might be doable But sand is so forgiving I couldn't imagine not riding a 2-stroke in the dunes.
