I've got an opportunity to pick up a new leftover 2010 690 for a pretty good price. I was planning on purchasing a 2012 in March, but my plans might be changing. I know of the changes to the 2012...690cc, better light, lower suspension, more comfortable seat (yea right).

I wonder if it would we worth waiting for the newer model or jump on the 2010.

Advice?

I haven't been on the new 2012 model but I always believe in cost/benefit ratio's.....and I'm always pleased to have a chance at a good deal....especially on a new bike that's heavily discounted.....

I'm always looking for the best deal too. I ended up buying the 2010. Picking it up this Friday. Heavily discounted for a brand new bike is alright by me.

Good choice going with the 10. You will love it and according to other threads all the bugs from 09 back were fixed. I picked up an 2010 brand new from a out of state dealer for $8699 out the door. No setup or other hidden costs. I have done a handful of mods to it and love it. Besides, no one even knows if the 2012 is coming to the US. Enjoy your bike and have fun!

I picked up the 2010 690 today. Just finished looking through the manual and "briefcase" stuff. The grab handles were there, passenger peg block off plastic plates, and there are a couple of what look like rubber plugs in there. Do you happen to know what those are for? I'm looking forward to getting on this weekend and breaking it in.

Did you get a tool kit? I think I need to call the dealer back about mine...it wasn't in the bag.

Yes, you should of gotten a KTM tool kit in a orange pouch. As for the rubber plugs I don't recall and would have to go out and check mine. They may be for the grab handles? Are they spacers perhaps? What color did you get?

I got in contact with the dealership, and they noticed the tool kit after I left. They are mailing it to me tomorrow. The rubber plugs are actually bushings according to the schematic part list. They are 2 additional lower tank bushings...I've read of people upgrading them, so maybe KTM is also aware of a problem...who knows?!?

Took care of the fuel line and radiator overflow "rubbing" on bolt issues, installed the grab handles, ordered a custom Tall Seat Concepts seat, installed Rox Risers, dissabled side stand switch, and checking out some of the footpeg extensions....oh yea, got a good ride in today as well.

It's a great bike. Makes my old WR250R seem like a slug!

The upper handle bar clamps are a warranty item; the old ones were known to break. If you have a divot on the top of the clamp you have the post warranty part.

Enjoy!

Which model of the Rox Riser did you get? Were there any issues installing them?

I had a pair of the 2" adjustable ones laying around from a previous bike. No issues installing. I did have to rotate the throttle sleeve around so the cables are on the bottom of the bar. Other than that, no problems at all. They are very nice for standing up.

I am also thinking of a 690 or 990 but would prefer the 690 in the near future and was wondering how this bike does on the freeway like at MPH I know it will pull 70 with no issues but like cruising is it wound up much?? I have a 530 excr now but I ended up setting it up more for the trails and snow bike riding, so now I need a dual sport again for the mountain roads and forest roads.
