I got the parts in from across the pond on Thursday, and finally got a chance to do some work today! I decided to try making a time lapse with my GoPro set to 10 second intervals of me assembling the engine for my 315r.

The assembly took about 2 hours and was by far the easiest an engine has ever gone together for me. You can see a few places where I had to improvise because I didn't have a clutch holder tool. There's one place where I used a tongue depressor in between the gears. For the clutch nut, I got help from a second pair of hands, we wrapped it in a soft aluminum strip and put a chain pipe wrench on it. Then we both pushed on the friction plates and got the bolt torqued.

Now I want to do the same thing with the whole bike assembly! Hopefully I get some time to work on it this week.

Forget the Engine!!! I'm still drooling over the Plane in the background!!!

I still can't get over the four blade prop. Never seen one on a civilan piston powered plane before. That must really make it quiet on take-off. :bonk:

lol yeah. Actually watching dad work on the Lancair's engine, and helping some of his old race (cars) buddies work on their engines was how I learned to work on engines.

The sound of that thing flying is simply amazing, it's one of my favorite sounds! It is even unique to Lancairs because they usually have Continental engines, this was the first one to ever have a Lycoming in it, and is still one of very few. I took a video of it taking off one time with my phone, but it really doesn't do it justice. This was a 2200 foot runway to give you an idea of the speed.
