Hey guys I've been lerking this forum for a while now and posted in the KTM section a while back when I had my 125 EXC.

Long story short, Had problems with the KTM and ended up selling it over a year ago, My cousin kept bugging me about getting another bike so after looking for few days I found a deal on this 2001 YZ250. The previous owner said the top end has been redone last june and the bike rode great.

Came with all new bearings, FMF fatty, FMF silencer, V-Force reeds, Renthal bars with Applied triple clamp, MSR shifter, claimed to have revalved forks and shock (idk how to confirm that unless i tear it apart), and few other goodies including paddle tires already on wheel assemblies.

Only thing mechanically I had to replace was the floppy kick starter that should be coming in on tuesday. I ordered a new front and rear fender, new OEM style graphics, and seat cover. Still need to get new foot pegs since these are pretty worn down.

going to keep buying things for this but my drift car has most of funds.

Nice YZ man! If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the bike?

Your plastics seem different, are they aftermarket? The number plates seem slimmer and the rear end looks different. Kind of like an 02 rear end.

thats awesome! I've never really got to open the bike up yet, I tried riding last saturday and it started snowing. The bike has pretty decent low end to putt around on, it hits the pipe pretty smoothly as well. I think its a lot smoother then my cousin's stock RM250

I know the front fender and number plate are acerbis but I'm not sure about the rest, I did order new acerbis front and rear fender though,

Nice bikes! I picked up an 00 a couple weeks ago for cheap, but it doesn't run. Top end was trashed. Previous owner didn't install the air filter properly and sucked dirt into the carb/ engine.

Id throw a top end in it anyways... I never trust what the owner before me says, unless they can show me reciepts of the parts and work. Every single bike I see for sale has a fresh rebuild!

Better safe than sorry, dont need to drop a skirt and end up with a bike that needs a total rebuild.

Thanks for the heads up! I was thinking the same thing. I think I'll do the top end after the next ride or two just to be safe.

Oh and question for guys that rides woods

I'm a novice rider and haven't ridden too much but can hold my own. I plan on getting a flywheel weight but I'm not sure if I should go with the 13oz or lighter? I also plan on getting ASV levers and eventually a rekluse clutch.

is there anything else i should consider to help tame the bike down a bit?

The asv levers are a waist in my opinion. Just get a good pair of barkbusters/hand guards and that should be all you need to protect the levers and your hands.

I've always been a fan of ASV levers, I'm coming from the streets (had a 06 R6) and loved my ASVs. Bark Busters are another thing I need to get. any recommendations on brands?

The only problem i have with ASV is after they are used for a while they start to become loose and flop around. Havnt used them for a while though so maybe they fixed this problem.

I have them on my R1 as well and I never had any issue... but the R1 has never hit the ground, left the ground or anything in between. A dirt bike takes a whole different kind of beating. Like I said I havnt ran them on dirt for quite a while, but I had them (the F3's) on my 450, 250, and 125 at one point, and all three sets did the same thing. They became extremely sloppy over time. I ran them for appx 2 seasons on each bike. Went back to some stock levers and havnt had an issue yet. The key for me is to leave the clamp just loose enough so it doesnt spin while riding but will spin when it hits the ground, I picked it up from watching the pros outdoors and have been using this method for a few years now and havnt broken a lever since.

The bark busters are a "have to" on the bike for woods racing. If you get the bark busters you will never break levers again. Second the Rekluse is the best 1 thing you can add to the bike for woods racing.

Comming off 4strokes to race 2 smokers this year.......... this is exactly what i did. The day i bought my bike i rode it, ordered a rekluse, cycra hand guards, radiator guards, and a skid plate. I did add a skid plate because of a crushed frame on my WR and i run a home made pipe guard.
