Just put a new stator on my bike and its stil not getting spark. I tried to get the stator positioned exactly like the old one with the mark on the case but it might be a little off. Would it still work or being off a little cause it not to work?

Also how visible should the spark be?

Also how big of a gap should there be between the flywheel and that little black box thats on the stator? Seems kinda far on this one

Remember what I said earlier on the other thread? I found the problem you were having as a wiring harness issue... :bonk:

To answer your question though, its a mechanical stator, you can the sensor put anywhere you want, it will/should still spark. The gap is pretty large between the flywheel and the pickup sensor, at least 5mm gap. There is only one stator that fits properly between the stator brackets, so you've got the right one for sure.

Sorry for my noobness but what do you mean by a wiring harness issue? Like the wires are bad or something not plugged in right?

A problem with the cabling it self, either related to fraying or the connectors. My specific problem was water getting into the harness and staying there forever as it had nowhere to go. I also had an issue with the connector to the ECU as well. After I took the harness all apart and made it water-tight, the bike has been flawless.

Now that I think about it and remember it first happened when I took it to the dunes (pismo beach)....the bike did sit outside at night and everything gets wet/sandy, the salt in the air could of done something inside the cdi?

Been looking at cdi's on ebay just in case......found a couple off different bikes/years and does anyone know if they will fit.
I have a 2003 250sx and found one from a 2004 250sx and one off a 2003 125sx

Its probably not a CDI issue... What I'd do is pull the CDI main connector apart carefully, spray it down with contact cleaner and re-assemble. Then I'd cut the wiring harness sheath and then make a new one out of electrical tape for the time being. I actually took the connectors off one end and put some new heat shrink on. The bike hasn't had ONE glitch since then, runs like a champ! :bonk:

This one doesn't really have a wiring harness that plugs into the cdi....there's just wires coming out of it. Maybe I can open it up and check for corrosion or anything like that.

It's easy to cut the connectors and replace with new ones so I'll try that too, will clean all the grounds really good also

Just went over every connection, replaced the connectors with new ones and cleaned all the grounds....still nothing.

The cdi has a good crack in it...the stop bolt to keep the forks from hitting hit hasn't been there and I think it's been taking a beating from the forks for a while

idk

Well, if the CDI has a crack in it... _________ you can fill in the blank. :bonk:

But yea, you can very easily measure the output from the CDI to the coil, pretty straight-forward high voltage AC coming out of that suckah!

Motosport had oem parts on sale so I went ahead and bought a cdi....these bikes don't have much electrical/ignition on them so if this doesn't do it I'm not sure what else it could be

Will report back when I get it in

Why the new stator? Were you chasing a no spark issue and replaced the stator or did you upgrade and the no spark issue surfaced? The pics here may help with some of yours questions. http://www.tripleate...joe/headlights/

It will still work if its off, but you can either lead to lack of power or engine damage. Set the timing when the piston is .044" BTDC or around 1.1mm

I was originally having a problem with no spark....chased it down to either the stator or cdi. Stators weren't that expensive so I replaced it, old one looked kinda burnt I guess. I wasn't really sure what I was looking at...still no spark. My old cdi was smashed and cracked from the forks hitting it so I have a new one coming.

I didn't kick the bike at all when replacing the stator, just pulled old one off and put the new one on so I don't think the timing could of gotten messed up? I marked the new one in the same spot the old one was marked and lined it up to the marking on the case

That sucks dude. Hope the CDI does the trick and gets you back out there soon.

OK so your chasing a no spark issue. Pull your tank off and get the coil out. Clean off the bare metal tabs on the frame you mount the coil to. Clean the ends of the coil and the black ground wire. Take the kill switch out of the picture, it grounds out the CDI,, no spark,, they do go bad some times. Check the spark plug boot, you can pull it off cut some wire back and re-install the boot. These are things to start with that cost nothing but your time.

Could be a lot of things but I think you are starting with the expensive end that costs you money, shotgunning the trouble-shooting process. There are other things to check but those are a few things to start with.

I've done all of those things already....Not just throwing money at it. I guess I kind of am, but yeah I've done those little things already. Cleaned every connection, even cut old terminals/connectors off and replaced with new ones.

I've been waiting on the CDI from Motosport...finally got it yesterday. Put it on just now and am getting a nice, healthy blue spark. So it was the cdi afterall.

Glad to have the bike up and running again
