As of today, it is what it is. What I'd like to do (if possible) is this:
When you click the "forums" tab that loads ALL forums, leave it as is. Otherwise listing all the sub-forums would make for a crazy long index page. However, if you click the vehicle specific links under the "quick nav" menu, say "dirt bikes", since those index pages are much shorter being vehicle specific forums only, show all the sub forums.
Another option is to click the red push pin to the right of the "view new content" button.

Just sayn'..It gets old waiting 8 seconds on every click i do(and i don't have ads to wait for). The ad area is there yet is a wasted blank 13 of the page. So the real page area is like reading a roll chart. I won't be here much anymore,or at least until i get a new computer

so you have to press on that topic, then to find out you may not be interested in reading about it.
will it go back to the old way, where if you just have the arrow on it, the little square box pops out and reads out the first few sentences?
thanks.

We have stats on screen resolutions from our visitors and while we are compliant down to 1024X768 screen settings, compliant means that the site will display without a horizontal scroll bar. However, it's optimized for higher screen resolutions because that's what the bulk of our visitors use.
I can't speak for 8 second page loads as we're carefully monitoring response time, server load, etc... It's all in excellent shape from what we have control over. In terms of the side bar, I'll be the first too tell you, outside of ads, it seems like a bit of a waste, right? That side bar is preparation for future phases where our system will be able to show you other relevant content found elsewhere on the site. For example, you post a question about winterizing your bike. Our system knows that there is an article in our How-To section written by an accomplished engine builder and mechanic. To, unless you went looking, you've never know it was there. That's a same. On the new site, that article will show in the right column as relevant content.
The side column will also do similar things with relevant product reviews, riding areas, classified ads, events, etc... So, in a nut shell, we don't want to serve just more info, but hopefully more RELEVANT info by related like content together.
Thanks for your feedback and hopefully my answer gives you an better idea of where we're heading.

When you roll over the topics, just to the right, see the grey circle with the white arrow in it? Click it. Topic previews are there, they just function a bit differently. See my signature for some short how to videos on the most commonly used functions. I think it would help get you up to speed quickly.

Click the "view new content" button in the upper right. There you can find new posts, post you follow, topics you participated in, etc.. It's a central location instead of many different buttons all over the place to find info on the site. It's far more efficent and prettty cool. Check it out.
Avatars are smaller, but profile pictures are larger. At least for now, we have no plans to increase avatar size.
Also, checkout my signature for quick start videos. There is one that covers the "view new content" function. Give it a shot!

Again, click "view new content". There you can see forum content for topics you follow, started or participate in. The old site used to have buttons all over the place. Messy. Click the "view new contnet" button and you can see what you asked for and more.
You can also click the down arrow next to your loggged in name in the upper right of the screen. This area will allow you to see your content.
Both will get you to the same place if you're just looking for your posts. View new content button does that and more from a single screen.

We're pleased with the upgrade so far, the feedback is about what we expected and we're not sitting in the safe place of being static that others find comforting. Pushing means you'll make some uncomfortable and even mad. This goes with the territory and we expected of a few tirades. We've given them all coupons to replace their kittens we've killed, so all is well.
