triumph tiger 800 is what you are looking for man, ktm's have seats like a 2x4 and are meant for resting between standing the drz seat is much better but still narrow and uncomfy, the klx has the widest seat and can be reworked for cheap and they are only 6200 bucks brand new

i own both ktm 520 exc and DRZ 400 and i would not recomend riding 2 up on the KTM it is uncomforable to ride over 100 miles by yourself. You could do it on the drz but i would spend the money on a nice aftermarket seat but even then your "member" will more and likely fall asleep and tingle...dont ask it just does lol. My wife and i have rode double on the DRZ numerous times and it happens everytime. Simple solution bought a KTM and taught her how to ride.

Buddy welded some little tabs to mount pegs onto subframe of xr400. Turned out ok

My Drz 400 is an awesome dualsport in many ways except of course weight. This spring I want to build or buy a lighter dualsport (keeping the DRZ also) my choices were a jap or ktm maybe 4 or 5 years old used and put the baja kit on it. I intend to ride double some and wife luckily only weighs 100 lbs.I was disapointed to hear that the ktm exc and others would not be good bikes to ride the wife on.I have a dt 50 yamaha with footpegs clamped to the swingarm and ridden double without experiencing the issues I am reading on this thread.I guess because less rear wheel travel ect,so what is the lightest bike I can dualsport and ride double on.I must admit I don`t understand the subframe thing, what if I weighed 290lbs myself instead of me 190 plus wife 100? Would the subframe not handle my weight.

the weight is not as far back with just you as it is with you and passenger. thus, the subframe does not need to be as strong to hold the same weight if it is just you rather than you plus a passenger.

Yes,I was thinking about that after I posted but can`t I just sit a little futher forward and be a litle uncomfortable til I get to the woods then she can read her book and smell the flowers while I rip and have a blast on a light bike.I grew up riding mx bikes in the woods and still do, so not comfortable going fast or attempting tough sections on the DRZ but love it on the street and dirt roads ,the engine is pretty powerful and torquey with a few mods, hasn`t someone figured out how to shoehorn the engine into an mx frame yet.How bout the Honda place that stuffs the cr500 motor into the crf250 frame, wish those guys were dualsport enthusiasts but it would be more expensive than the Husky, maybe I should get a loan and buy one have wanted a Husky since the 70`s

Keep the R6 and buy a DR650 for $1500ish cash. Problem solved and you now have two bikes.

I just did 2up on my old XR250L... on and off road and it did ok. Just remember you don't have near the braking capabilities on a DS that you do on a sportbike, give yourself more stopping distance. Also, the seats are a lot harder. My passenger complained about a sore butt after only 1/2 hr. Maybe some padded bike shorts for her.

then I woul dhave three bikes, i already have a 426
Nothing wrong with that!
Since you already have an offroad bike, the Triumph Tiger 800XC is a badass bike. You can still have a lot of fun on the twisty roads and it is pretty damn competant offroad.

I just checked out the Triumph from the link and read a mag test on it,super cool looking bike, but competant offroad, they said it weighs 496 lbs full of gas. What offroad are you talking about, across a golf course, I get uncomfortable quick on my DRZ on some single track.Wow guess I need to hit the gym or something I don`t get it.

yeah. i've learned that on forums different people have very different definitions of of "dirt" or "off road" riding.
that's why you get some posts like "a KLR is great off road" and other posts like "a DRZ sucks off road". both can be true statements...depending on the definition of "off road".
