To all,

First, I'm a newbie to TT, and I've got my first dirt bike, a KX 125.

I'm pretty sure I want to sell the KX and get a big trailie. I'm thinking XR600/650 R or XR400 R as a second choice.

I say this from ignorance, only commenting based on the excellent things I've heard about Honda XRs over the years.

I don't know how they compare WEIGHT WISE to some comparable bikes (DRZ, etc.).

Anyway, my only requirement is to hang a tag on it so that I can ride legally on the street if I need to. Doesn't need to be streetable, just legal.

Can anyone tell me what the 400/600/650 might be heavier than, or lighter than ?

Thanks,
Barry

The only possible Thumper/Streeter that won't be a pig is a WR-F or maybe some of the KTMs. The Honda CRF250X is just around the corner.

Anything beyond these bikes IS a pig when compared to your KX. I'm working on Dual-sporting a KX-F. I'll tag it in Oregon, which is where it's headed, anyways.

Hey Barry,
THe XR's are some of the heaviest bikes out there. I think they are going to be fairly close weight wise to a DR-Z, but wait for more responces before you take that to the bank.
I agree with teamgreen. The lighets dual sport you could ride would be a WRF of some sort. While they are still beefy, they aren't anchors like the XR's : ) I have one of each (XR250, and WR426) so I'm just speaking the truth. Great bikes otherwise though. No one can compare with the XR seat for comfort tho! :)

Might also try the KLX300, it's about the weight of the WR250. Maybe easier to street too (green sticker). I think the soft XR seats are a thing of the past. Sat on a few at the dealership last week and they are as hard as any MX bike.

DRZ400's almost exactly the same as XR400 weight-wise. XR650 is heavier again.

Are you sure you want a 400cc+ 4stroke? Would you be happier with like a WR250F or upcoming Husky/Honda/Suzuki/Kawasaki 250F? Just asking 'cos the weight seems an issue for you :)

True, but the DRZ FEELS lighter. Bud you need to put around on a few different big bore bikes to get an idea. IF your serious about it, the XR400 is bulletproof and a great beginner big bore bike. It also has mucho capabilities. :)
