I'm working on my 08 yz450f rear shock and need to purchase a new nut for the end of the rod, where the shim stacks are. I need to know what size the nut is so i can use a tap and die set to clean the rod. The old nut is junk and can't be reused.

I'm pretty sure it's 1.50mm thread, I just had a KYB shock apart and used the 1.75mm thread die... that was the wrong size it was too big. Here's a replacement nut, note that it states 1.50mm.

It's an M12x1.5. Try to get an all metallic low profile lock nut.

Yep, the exact nut in the link I posted I believe, lock aside. I use high stregnth loctite on mine.

The one I ordered is the KYB locking nut. I also plan on using loctite with it.

I've had them back apart a number of times. It's never been a problem.

I meant loosen off to the point where the piston/shims are able to come off the shaft. I wouldn't think it'd feel good off of a 100+ foot jump.
