You'd be suprised how often "90 degrees" really measures out to less that 50.

Average, yes. But... the fun stuff has about 2 feet of 90 degrees right at the top, and if you don't give the bike a 'push' midair or tap the rear brake after the front wheel clears the edge, you just go right back down- backwards.

Need a certain soil composition to get that, though.

Some pics of me when I was thirty years younger. As you can see I have been climbing a long time. I hope to meet some of the party's interested and climb together. We also hit the trails in the afternoon when we have taught the hills a lesson. I will post on this thread when we are climbing in the spring.

I think you could tumble down a 50 degree incline vs it being a complete free fall in mid-air.  The hills we climb is a complete free fall to the ground if ya don't make it, you WILL break some thing or die when you hit the bottom if ya don't make the top!  Friend of mine watched a guy die tring to do a hill climb we use to do on dirtbikes try it and he free falled to the bottom with the bike landing on top of him killing him instantly!

Shame you won't be making it Jared. Are you planning any week-ends for Trevorton soon?

South of Trevorton is Minersville, PA.  If you're new to coal riding and want decent hills we've got them. Probably the craziest is Gap Rock Hill.  Here's a video of a local killing it.  But believe me, it's way harder then it looks.

Here are I guess you could say "Easier" hills tried by another local.  I certianly know my 250 couldn't haul my fat ass up it.

Messing around with google earth.  Here is the hill, Earth says around 600 feet.  Sounds about right.

Your elevation exaggeration is set to 3 you need to change back to 1 before you measure. The top of that hill (gap rock) is ~1020' and the bottom is about 830' not a bad climb at 190'.   Total run is about 380' with a ground distance of 430' that puts the angle @ 26.5 degrees

Don,

The new Glen Burn hills are 240' tall 421' ground distance and a 34.75 degree angle.

I'll be at duncott this saturday.  No pass.......  But 90% don't have a pass anyway including my buddies.  We don't stay long anyways.  Give a few hills a try and off we go.  Unless there is a nice crowd to watch.

Yes, I am planning a trip to Wakeman, OH. to have a car tuned and stopping by Welsville for the weekend. I need to find a parking place for my Motor Home and a enclosed car trailer that will be secure for the weekend. Do you have any ideas?
