I'm looking into getting my first street bike. I really want to do some stunting because I like that sort of stuff on my off road bikes, but I would also like to be able to drive it around a little on roads.

I've been eyeing an '06 Kawasaki 636 on the local classifieds, but before I go out and buy it I was wondering what a rough yearly price for a bike like this would be to insure? I'm 21 and have a prefect driving record and plan to take one of the STAR certification courses.

I'd do one of the online quotes, but I really don't want to start getting all of that junk mail so I'm hoping someone who knows could give me a ballpark within a few hundred?

Thanks.

Thanks, that's not as bad as I thought it would be... We've always been insured through StateFarm so I guess I'll give them a call next week. If they give me some BS 1000+ quote I'll look elsewhere. Hopefully I'll be able to get some bundle discount because they do my car insurance, too.

Well, I just got off the phone with StateFarm... They quoted me from around $1100 to $1700 a year! That's quite a bit more than I would want to spend. What company insured you for the $500?

21yrs old + Ninja spells high risk for insurance companies.

Better be looking at a standard for your first.  Those rates are unreal :smirk:

Yeah, the worst part is I won't really even ride it half the year and during the season I'll probably spend most of the time learning to stunt on it. The only actual street use it would see would be going over to a friend's house every once in a while when I'm by myself... Maybe I should just ditch the idea of street use and just get a bike to only use for stunting.

I should try calling some other places I guess and see if I can get a better quote though.

That's actually not too bad for being 21 and that particular bike.  The three factors are age, years licensed for motorcycles, and the bike.  If you just got your MC license it's going to be several hundred no matter the bike.

That adds up to $478 which a pretty good rate given the conditions.

I did forget one thing as the state you live in can make a 2 to 1 difference in rates.

I currently have 3 bikes with liability only and I'm paying under $100 a year.  Now none of those are sport bikes.  One is a 30 year old 250cc street bike that for some reason I bought at a garage sale for $50.  It's only $19 a year.

Oops, I forgot all about this thread! I ended up buying a '06 636 like I was looking at because I got it for a pretty good deal. I had called around and the best price by far was progressive. Without any collision, just injury, uninsured, and under-insured coverage it is only $298 a year!
