I'm looking for recommendations on Enduro Jackets. I've looked at a few web sites. The Fox Enduro Jacket and the Moose XCR look pretty good. I'll be riding through the cold months, probably racing Hare Scrambles as long as they run in North Carolina. The Moose Monarch Pass looks good, but may too much for the cold here, plus it costs a lot more.

Anyone have any recommendations? I'm open for recommendations on cold weather pants as well.

I have been using the Moose XCR for the last couple of seasons. Great jacket, doesn't affect mobility, and has about 10 vents you can unzip if you find yourself getting too warm. Another cool feature is if it gets too hot to wear there is a belt sewn into the rear pocket. You can fold the jacket up into the pocket and wear it as a fanny pack. There is also a drink port hole on the left side of the chest under the logo which allows you to wear a Camelbak or equivalent under the jacket and route the drink tube through the jacket. :)

I also have a Acerbis Impact. The material is a bit thicker than the XCR, almost like a dualsport jacket or light duty street riding jacket. It doesn't have venting like the XCR, but does feature removable sleeves and doubles as a vest. I have noticed that it does keep me a bit warmer than the XCR, but mobility is sacraficed due to the thicker material.

Thanks NorCal,

Your recommendation reads a lot better than most of the ads that I've read. I wear a camelback when riding as well. Do you wear a chest protector under it as well? I usually wear a large, but am thinking that I'll probably need to order a size larger to accomodate the extra gear.

I have never worn a chest protector under either jacket. I would imagine you could, as long as the jacket is a little on the big side.

FYI, Acerbis sizes seem to run a bit on the small side when compared to Moose Racing.

Im using a MSR jacket. It was like $150 last year. So far I love it. It seems to be warm enough to wear in most conditions. I was even wearing it this winter with a few extra layers. I got an x-large. I can fit a chest protector under it easily. Mine also folds into a fanny pack. That is a real nice feature. If I got another one I might look for one with removable sleaves. It may be nice to wear as a vest on some days.

About the only negatives on mine is that the coller has a velcro clasp. When open it sticks to the nylon on the top of the coat and the nylon is gettin kinda frayed and fuzzy.
That and the quick release clasp on the fanny pack portion (on the back of the jacket) tends to dig into your back if you wear the jacket while driving your truck.

Im either getting the Moose XCR or THOR Phase. I like the THOR because it has more pocket space than the Moose, and the arms zip off into a Vest. Way cool cuz I get hot easy. THOR is also 50 bucks less than the moose. Dont know about fit or function on the THOR though :)

Fox makes enduro jackets, and Shift also came out with one recently if you're interested.

the zip off arms are definitely a treat, I really like my thor jacket and wear it all the time (got the blue one). I think it looks quite cool too, you know you gotta look cool if nothing else :)

I have a Thor jacket and have had it for a couple years now. Just bought a new one, check out the new Shift X-Country jacket. It has zip off arms,is vented, has good pockets front and back. When the arms are on it is has very comfortable elbow cups/armor. $129.00 normal but got for under $100. Its just not for very cold whether unless you wore polar fleece under it.

Is the Thor waterproof?

The Thor is "water resistant". Nothing a good spray on waterproofer can't fix for far cheaper than a truly waterproof/gortex coat.

YZman,

I looked at an ad for the MSR. It does seem to have a lot going for it, but the price for them is a lot higher than what you paid. Do you know which model you have? The ISDE jacket runs around $325 or better. I was also wondering if it has the hole like the XCR for a drinking tube?
