For the record, the difference between 0.3 ohms and 1.3 ohms is virtually a non-issue. Good quality meters won't read 0 ohms. You'll get about 0.5 ohms just touching the leads together with no components being tested. Unless you're testing airbag circuits, being one ohm off isn't conclusive. You may very well have a bad coil but the additional 1 ohm isn't indicating the problem.

Glad to hear you got that fixed. Intermittent electrical problems can be a huge bitch.

How could anyone possibly rebuild a set of forks and give them back to you with one fork locked up?

Good to know... I know virtually nothing about electrical components or how to test them. The coil was bad and since it was replaced she runs like a champ.

Im assuming the fork wasnt locked up when he sent it back to me... My guess is that it happened durring transport/shipping. Those guys at the shipping places throw those boxes around like theres nothing in them half the time. He payed for the return shipping and repair to make it right even though it probably was not his fault, so I cant complain. No skin off my back really. He's a good guy and does great work, not to mention I trust him with my stuff. If it was his fault and was missed before he sent it out, he made it right, no questions asked out of his own pocket. Cant ask for much more.

One thing after another with this bike... went to the track today and dropped it in the trailer while trying to unload it, ended up splitting my pipe and ripped the weld off the silencer.

Didnt notice it at first because it cracked on the inside of the pipe somehow, like it bent too far or something. Bike starts fine and didnt sound any different but I noticed it was a little louder. Get to the track and notice the bike seems down on power, keep in mind that I frequent this track so I am pretty darn familiar. So I clutch the hell out of it to build speed thinking that maybe it was just loading up from putting around on the site lap. When I do it def went lean or something. Jarred my neck horribly and my wrist feels like its broken. The thing revved to the moon and I over jumped a small double by about 20-30 ft. and landed on the take off to the next double. The track owner comes running over and is all frantic so Im expecting to look up and see my femur sticking through my leg or something. Come to find out he was only excited because he says he's never seen a pipe split like a bannanna (as he put it). Didnt hurt myself too bad other than my wrist and my hip was a little sore, my neck didnt become sore until I got home and sat down for a while. Sadly enough I forgot to turn the cam on for the crash. Do have the few quick warm up laps I took though. Ill post in a little to show the jump I took my digger over. Pics of the bike and damage will be posted when I get around to working on it. Wont be riding for a while until I heal up a little, Im extremely sore!

I should be good to go by saturday, at least I hope. Im just aching all over today, and I think I got a little whip lash from my head snapping down when I bottomed out but the worst is my wrist, I jammed it up pretty good. Couldnt even pick the laptop up off the couch this morning while leaving for work with that hand and its swollen pretty good. Got a few nice bruises from the impact as well but nothing major. I probably would have ended up worse if I would have bailed but I tried to ride it out... just didnt have quite enough suspension to soak up the impact and she tossed me. Have some nice little rub marks on the fenders from the tires rubbing to remember the crash by.

Heres one of the bruises, hopefully it doesnt get any worse. Im sure you guys dont want to see the other one. :cripple:

at about the 2:25 mark you can see where I under jump the landing but over jump the little ridge they have built in the middle for the mini's. probably has a little to do with my neck being sore.

Any ways you can hear how hard I have to slip the clutch to build any sort of RPM's even just putting around, the bike usually pulls pretty good in 2nd or 3rd with minor clutch work.

The jump at 6:02 is the one that I got F'ed up on

Man thats some tough luck...but what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger.
I was listening when you cranked the bike and could here some sparatic and chasing idle sounds. That was what I was experiencing and I now believe it is a characteristic of the PWM with that funky choke knob idle circuit.
what is your current jetting? My bike still runs best with a fat pilot and a leaner main......but I can not get a good plug reading.
Currently 50 pilot with A/F 1.25 out CEG needle at top notch with a 160 main. The bike does not seem to run hot at all and it is crisp but not that 125 breathing sound. If I go any bigger on the main...I have much trouble getting it to wheelie up in the third gear...and it wants to run flat at 1/2 throttle.

Ive been switching back and forth between a 45 and 48 pilot. Its a little fat down low and I get a little spooge if I idle too long. JD red needle in 3rd or 4th clip position depending on the track and weather, and a 172 or 175 main depending on the track and weather. I was running a 42 pilot based on what the plug readings and A/S were telling me but I recently bumped it up to a 45 then to a 48 which is slightly too rich most of the time. However due to the weather being a little on the chilly side Ive been running it more often then not. I will be switching back to the 45 as soon as it starts to warm up a little more.

Kinda upsetting I only got about 4 or 5 laps in after I drove 45 mins to get there and the track was in pretty good shape but what can ya do. Just glad I made it to work today.

My 97 runs like crap with that jetting and it is driving nutz because from everything I read it should run with a 170-172 and 45-48 pilot...but it will not. I still think the PWM carbs are crapola and the PWK is on my to get list...I keep searching for a mid ninety KX 250 PWK with the screw on top.
If you get northward to Michigan let me know...you ride like me..old and slow... :goofy:

Using plug color is a great way to start chasing your tail with jetting unless its strictly to check the main jet with a fairly fresh plug, a long light incline and a plug wrench. Otherwise, what circuit changed the plug color, how long does it take for a plug to change color? Best indicator I've had the best luck with is by checking throttle response. I'd much rather be a little rich with the main jet- that's where you'll melt metal if you're a little lean on a cool day or evening.

Sudco should be able to hook you up with a new PWK for a decent price. Just don't expect their jetting or needle selection to be correct.

Oh, and don't discount a leaking float needle/seat/o-ring or misadjusted float as a possible cause for confused jetting.

And we're all making sure our silencers are completley serviced (core holes *completely* clear and unobstructed) with fresh silencer packing (not packed too tightly and NOT home grade insulation) before beginnig any rejetting, right?

A carb should also wear out over time, so an old and worn carb does not give you the same results as a new one IMO.

No offense bdubb106 but I think you should just sell this pre 99' machine of yours and stick with 99+ model years of YZ250...

I have two of those 99+ machines... I have an 03 and an 08. Plus a YZ125 and 450 Why would I sell this bike? I can race the vintage class at my local track with this bike. They only have to be 15 years old or more. Ill get the kinks worked out and have a fun little bike to play around on.

Pipe was sent out for repair... they said they could reweld it since it split right along the weld. I will have pictures to post when it returns.
