Glad you're doing well!  I'm sure the meds are taking the edge off, but thats usually all you want them to do. Love them socks!! Keep the updates coming!

Dunno if you watch SX, but Reed will be getting something similar done....but his tib/fib is broken too.  Along with broken ribs...and T6.  He is hurtin for certain.

I've got a knee where the kneecap is worn out. I wish I could simply have it (and probably the end of my femur) resurfaced with some long lasting teflon or something. They tell me the other compartments of my knee are deteriorating too so they say it isn't worth doing a partial, so a full replacement is in my future. I've been getting lube injected a couple times a year for a few years now and I may have just skiied my last run a couple weeks ago. We quit mid-day and it was uncomfortable for at least a week afterwards and I iced the heck out of it afterwards and did the advil thing too for a few days to keep down inflamation.

Let us know when you come to the end of the internet!!  :-)

I took the dallas supercross with me to watch yesterday, and boy did I feel for reed. Can't believe all the injuries he sustained from the freak accident. Hope he makes good recovery. Did his boot get caught on the footpeg?

Bummer on your knee, cannot image total replacement. If you have that done can you do active sports?

Still searching for the end of the internet........

@dmac1.. got metalman and dmac1 reply mixed up....
lol on the riding thing. I can think of something else that I would like to ride, but I could not talk her into coming back to my room. They keep saying tomorrow will be worse. I notice sense they pulled all the drain tubes out my leg is swelling more = soreness/stiffness.

Look at you with 2 laptops. Surely that nurse will come take your mind off your knee any moment now!

My doc has said I'll be able to ride...won't be able to do stuff where it would take impacts as such like football, but thats not a worry at my age (56). I will for sure quiz him about it more when I get closer. I currently anticipate a lot less cycling, skiing will be out for sure and I expect to wear MX style knee braces. I ride off road so no big jumps and stuff like what you do.

I'm trying to hold off as long as possible cuz they only like to do 2 of these in your life and so if you get it done too early, you'll wear it out and then be kinda SOL. I'm also kinda hoping they'll come out with some more advancements in the whole process. According to my one of the docs I've seen, they're already using better materials tyhan what they did not too long ago. As I recall, it was the steel they use for the replacement parts.

Maybe Dr. Mark can add some insight along the lines of prospects for improvements in the next few years?

was working on my buddies laptop, his internet was not working, giving me something to do laying here.

So knee replacement only last 15 years or so?  Did not know that.   I know someone in there late 40s that needs to have one, does not sound like fun.   can you ride a bike after replacing the knee.

I do have to say how impressed I am with Dr. Shelbourne and Dr urch and crew. The nurse(s), physical therapist(s), all are very involved with your care. They all are very nice, very thorough and care about your health. Hard to put in words. If I would have done this locally, I would have been on my own and results who knows. IU Methodist hospital crew awesome too.

Has the nurse been back yet? :-)

How long a knee lasts depends upon how active you are. I hope to ride after I get mine done, but time will tell. I'm in no hurry and am doing what I can to prolong my 'stock' knee's useful life. They only like to do 2 in a person's life because each time they have to cut the bones shorter.

Did you see Reed's knee? Its pretty swollen.

my legs are not looking to bad, fixed acl is left leg.  On friday they are going to release me or if swelling is to much give me the option to stay 1-2 more days.  PT said he thinks I'll be good to go.

Wow! Great to see you doing so well...Damn, that room brings back memories, I'm sure by now you're chomping at the bit to get out of there. I think I left a day early, after 4 or 5 days you really start to progress. Great post(s), keep'em coming.

Having fun, you had better get rid of the pic with the crutches in the room, or I am going to have to give Dr. Shelbourne some sh!t about them next time I see him!
