I got the thing together. I even swapped a front tire. I'm making shredded dead animals for burritos, then I'm out to toss the wheel on the bike and give 'er a spin.

The surface of the ice is rough. But it hooks up and you can toss 'er right in there. It just feels funny if you drag your foot on it. We're riding again tomorrow. Left from the landing or last house before the tar on the peninsula.

It's definitely is a race gas only head. The squish band is huge and the combustion chamber is really small. There's 110 at Red's in Monticello. The Harley shop doesn't sell race gas anymore.

The first thing I noticed right away was that it has really nice throttle control. That is always a goal of mine when tuning. You can roll it on really smooth and really early or steer the rear end really nicely with the throttle.

The power band does seem a bit wider than a stocker as well. It's really difficult to gauge how much power it makes and where on the ice. I might take some cones and try to simulate a woods environment to see what it's like on the bottom of third gear while standing up. I know I can make pretty good time around the track in forth even though some it's a pretty tight track.

I rode the bike back to back with a regular 250, but the two bikes have different gearing (14-48 on the 295 and 15-48 on the 250). One thing that really surprised me was that the 295 seems to rev out higher without flattening out. The bike I put the head on came with 15mm of spacers on the reed cage (a 10mm and a the 5mm stocker). I put the 10mm back on figuring a little extra volume would not go amiss given the increase in displacement. The sales pitch on 10mm spacers is better bottom end response. I think the guy who originally put it on didn't get the memo that it was supposed to replace the stocker rather than be added to it. I got the bike last summer and didn't feel like messing with the reed cage until I got in there for another reason. It worked. But it required a 9 side, which I had.

The 10mm spacer doesn't seem to do anything bad. The darn thing revs to the moon. I put on a new DEP and with the Q Stealth that was there.

My other 110 head was way differnt looking then that one. My other 110 head was way thinner. Thats what led me to thinking that might be a 93 head. I forgot what kind of head I got with my second 295 kit. I was more interested in the differently ported cylinder. I run my rad valve with no spacer. I dont think im racing the 3 hour next weekend so maybee ill come up and ride.

Sorry 300. We jumped into the garage to swap tires for Jonesey and build race fenders for Ryan. I hit the ice at 2:55. But it's not like I'm a control freak about the track or anything. We usually do the crack of noon as a rule of thumb. But that can change too. Nobody but Jonesey and Ryan showed up so we wreched. We're flexible. I'll launch you my phone # on a PM.

Which three hour are you on about? Is that the Steel Shoe in WI? I can't imagine that head being a 93. It even kicks like a the high compression bike. We're going to ride tomorrow as well. Ryan has the day off. We're heading to Monti while swilling coffee in the morning.

...and this is what it looked like, from an XR 100 perspective.

It was great!  It reminded me of riding an ultralight roadrace bike on a big race course.  Mostly pinned; just trying to tuck as much as possible, carry corner speed, and not slow down.  Trying to stay tucked while pinned in top gear going through that series of lefts is hard!  The back end still moves around a lot, because you have so much weight on the front from leaning forward to tuck in (I'm big for an XR 100).

We're probably only going maybe 35 mph tops, but it's still a thrill! :smirk:

great course Mick!

As a side note, I was thinking about making some kind of fairing for that thing!  Like get a windscreen or something and make a fiberglass "nose" for it or something.  Thoughts?  I don't know how much benefit there is to be had at those speeds (not going that fast).

far out dude, I love chili.  What time are you riding/watching?  I'm working Saturday, so that's straight out for me.  I assume everything is happening Superbowl Sundee?

yep, I reckon you're right; at 30 mph, "getting out of the wind" isn't nearly as important as it is at 130 mph.  Oh well, one day I'll have to do something to her motor.

My bad really. I try not to plow a prejudice track, as much as possible. This year I was using the snow drifts, the thick ones were tough to get through with the ATV, to route the track to a certain extent. It's more than a little on the fast side this year. Sorry about that. :bonk:

Today I geared up my own bike, and added a 320mm rotor for braking. Damn honda caliper puked on me today. :smirk:

no no, track was great, I loved the "super speedway" feeling on the XR; I just have to push harder, I can make her work.
