My cam cover gasket leaks a slight amount of oil into the plug well and that promptly leaks out of the well drain. Could i take the cover off and add gasket sealer/maker to the gasket on both sides and the 2 mating surfaces and stop the leak safely? Thanks

No. The only sealer that should be on that gasket is a few spots of contact adhesive to keep it positioned as the cover is assembled to the head. If it stays in place without it, that's even better.

If the gasket leaks, it's because it has slipped out of place and become misshapen, has hardened and shrunk, or is cut. It needs to be replaced.
