how do i get more power from my 01 yz426f

Recommended Posts

hold the throttle open more. i believe you are mad if you are not a highly competitive racer seeking more horsepower from a big bore 4 stroke. i would start with jetting it, a clean air filter and fresh oil. maybe swap the sprockets depending on when you're riding.

although i hear a popular mod for earlier yzf's is an updated carb. apparently throttle response and ease of starting and adjustment is improved.

Well thanks for the advice, i just bought the bike. It already has a fmf powercore pipe and jet kit. Just one more thing...... Some people are saying that i should upgrade to a 450 cam, i wouldnt need the decompression setup on my bars. Just wondering if i would have to do any other work before installing the cam?

The only reason im not putting a big bore kit on it is the price, id love to do some work to the bike, but money is an issue.

Note the usual 450 cam mod allows for auto decompression only. It does not increase horsepower to any great extent.

As a 400 owner and rider, I find the 400 can keep up with most 450's without too much trouble. It does however take some riding time to be able to get the best performance out of it.

Often, lap times etc are better improved by focusing upon getting the suspension working properly. This then allows for the available horsepower to be better utilised.

That 01 has a very poweful motor as is. The right jets and gearing will do a lot for the least $$$.

My first public spectacle was on the 01. Local riders still talk about the shock and awe they witnessed when I grabbed a wee bit too much throttle that day.?

I can't imagine under what conditions you'd be able to utilize all of the power this bike has..

..a

My 01 426 is street legal with a supermoto setup and to cruise 55-60 i'm geared 15/40 so there are some times people can use more power. I know a WR transmission will help a ton, and it is in my plans, but when your on the asphalt all the time you want MORE POWER! Lol

Oh, I can. I use all the power my '06 has fairly often.

Not for very long at any one time, you understand, but still...

Hehe!

Yeah, usually when I can't see the horizon because the gas tank is blocking the view is when the throttle get the panic roll!

i have recently purchased a 01 yz426f (and i love it). it has quite a bit of power but...... i was wondering how to get a little bit more out of it? is there any tips/tricks anyone has to offer?

426's ran REALLY good. They only give up about 5hp to any 450 (stock, of course).

Where you might want to consider improvements is with weight. The 426 is a tank at nearly 250lbs. Newer 450's are in the 225-230 lb range.

Unfortunately, you'd have to spend a lot of money to shed 30lbs off your bike.

All of this would have been more helpful in the first post. I can agree, when on the street, it's nice to have a good amount of excess power. It can get you out of some situations.
