I have a 12 with about 10 hrs on it. the first day I rode it I got a false neutral. I think what happened was my boot hit the shifter and it was between gears. I bought 10mm extended shifter and have never had a problem since.

I had same exact experience.

So, that's 4 2012 bikes in a row +mine with no tranny trouble (so far).  Still loving this bike.  Let's see how many hours we can rack up.
I really don't want to jump to Green for 2013.  The RMZ is likely still slimmer and corners better - a key foundation for me.  And RMZ looks much better to me.  Sadly, I am one of those people that care about how my bike looks.

Even my 11, same tranny as the 12. The thing is a track princess doesnt get thrashed out riding in pits or trails. Bike has about 12 hours not one false nuetural no metal shavings in any filter, bike has had 15/50 full synthetic for the whole time minus when i broke it in. I actually drained the Motul synthetic that the bike comes in out of the crate to run a mineral oil to seat the rings better. i change my oil and filter very race round 10 oil changesnow no signs of any damage to that tranny. Only complaint about the bike was running hose terrible stock tires. Really glad I get to use my favourite tire out of the box next year!

our 2011 had zero tranny issues until about 50 hrs.  then it started acting up and by 54 hours was unrideable.

yes very few act up that early, from my experience 25 hours seems to be a start point for problems. Spoke to a engine builder yesterday and he admitted the 12 seems to be giving less issues than the 11, i bet its a batch problem with the gears.

I just bought a 07 450 and 4th gear slips. who uses 4th gear anyways but it kinda sucks. the bike has so much power and i would never go with any other company besides suzuki. no comparison in other companies.

got a 2011 rmz 250 with about 60 hrs and have a tranny problem right now. bike wont shift higher than 3rd gear! really sucks! I wouldn't buy a suzuki anymore, other than that its a pretty solid bike.

This should be called a "dead horse" thread instead of a sticky. How bout we all start looking into if the 2013 tranny changes are the solution. If so, then we need to find out if you can put the 2013 tranny in a 2010-2012 motor. I cant believe nobody has started a thread about this yet.

If your going to go through the headache of putting a 2013 tranny into your 2010-2012 you might as well just send it off and get it polished and treated.

Im saying for the guys who already have problems and need replacements. You dont want to polish the bad parts. If your gonna polish anything it should be done before the first ride.

I guess what I meant was if your going to go in there and put in 2013 parts if possible, I'd still send it off to get polished and treated.

34 hrs of MX on mine.  Lots of shifting.  No problems.  Again, I am using +10mm shifter and 20W50 oil (no detent spring).
Just changed oil and checked strainer - all good.

I will say that it seems like it shifts "smoother" as time goes on.  I don't feel much engagement during the shift.  Is this a sign of bad things to come?

I'm interested in a -10 or -11 rmz250 but a little worried about this tranny issue they've seem to got.

But What exactly happens when the tranny goes south? It first starts with false neutrals and then if nothing is done gears starts poppin out? Thats all? No actual blowup?

In that case i could just tear it apart and fix the tranny if i get false neutrals no big deal... What i'm worried about is parts cracking and jamming blowing up the tranny!

Is it big difference between -10 and -11 or is it possible to upgrade the -10 transmission to a -11 (if it's any better)?

Just get a 2011 and change the oil and filter regularly you'll be fine, And always use the clutch to change up and down gear

2011 gearboxes are better than 2010s
