2011 yz 450 f

Recommended Posts

i walked into the local yamaha dealer today to pick up some parts for my yz 125. they have a brand new 11 450 for 6500 that caught my eye. i thought o what the hell and filled out an application and i got approved yay! i told the salesman i would think about it overnight

do these bikes have any known issues or problems with the motor? i really like 450s but i bought a used 08 crf and it lasted 10 months before exploding. i'm just scared of making payments on a broken bike.

i really want this bike now but the 4 stroke bug left a bad taste in my mouth. if anyone has had any issues with this bike please share the information with me.

No issues at all, just change the oil on a regular interval and keep the airfilter clean and you won't have any problems.

hes right, call me crazy but i clean my airfilter every time my bike hits dirt, ill change the oil almost the same. its easy and fun, (for me). could be pricey depending on what oil you decide to run though. i never had any major motor problems with my yamaha 4 strokes.

if you can get that bike for 7 out the door your getting a diecent deal, at least for my area. good luck

Proud owner of an 11 450.. Beat the S@$t out of it on a daily basis racing mx and haven't had an issue with it all. Have heard some horror stories of exploding transmissions, but no issues with mine. Paid 8 out the door for mine, so at seven out the door I would say that is a good deal.

A yz 4 stroke, especially the 450 as it does not work as hard as a 250f, is more reliable and lasts longer than a two stroke!

People don't realize that a 4t does require more maintenance, but its a race engine! So is a 2t but they can handle being treated like crap better than a 4t as they are low tech,

Most guys coming from 2t to 4t have a bad experience with 4t because they did not maintain their 2t well and the 4t hurts them

These are mini formula one engines and need basic maintenance, change oil and oil filter often, clean air filter every ride, check valves every 20 hours or so and replace timing chain often,

well the reason i ask is because i had an 08 crf 450 that ate intake valves every 15 hours or so. after it was all said and done, the crank blew up and took out both engine cases. i'm just scared of having to make payments on a paper weight. but another thing that i should point out is that the crf had pro circuit cam and high compression piston, idk if that killed the reliability or not. also the guy that had it before me was some rich kid that got new bikes every year and he always bounced that thing off the rev limiter

I have a 2011 Yz 450f that I love. Its a rocket! I raced it from August on after my Rm 250 tranny went. I stsrted actually winning a few motos because of the bike. I did however have an issue with the valve cover gasket leaking. It was a problem with the 2010 and they apparently fixed it bit there have been some cases of it happening on the 2011's.

Changing the oil and cleaning the airfilter can not be said enough times. My '06 is still being ridden with the original top end on recomended maintanence... My buddy has only changed his oil 4 times on his '09 and cleans the filter MAYBE every 8-10 rides. He now needs a new top end and probly valves.

If you were surprised to get approved for financing...then you really might want to think twice about buying a new dirt bike at that insane interest rate, eh?

they have 0% for 6 months then it jumps to 18%.

the other plan is 13% for 36 months.

both are pretty ridiculous.

do you think i could get a better rate from my bank?

Possibly but it would probably have to be a personal loan or something like that. I don't know if banks will give you a loan for a recreational vehicle but then again it's been 5 years since I applied for any kind of loan so I'm not sure. I always found I got the best interest rates through the credit unions when it came to buying cars.

Plan A:

Put down as much as you can, then take the 0% for 6 months and pay aggressively on that amount. 5 months into the contract, refi the balance with your bank, or even with a credit card at a lower rate. If you pay enough at 0%, the balance will be much smaller and the interest won't hurt so much.

Plan B:

Put down as much as you can, then take the 0% for 6 months, pay on it as much as possible while you sell your current bike or your little sister, then pay it off in 6 months. Use their money for free. Just don't get caught paying their exorbitant interest. "Oh yeah, just take the bike and don't pay anything for 6 months... Then we'll screw you 'til you can't sit down." That's their plan.

Did you see the recent Motocross Action on the 450 shootout? They stated multiple times how reliable the Yamaha is. Shocking they are actually giving the yamaha any credit. It has the best suspension also. And why it didn't come out on top is why I rarely buy the mags. Reliability should count for about 90% of the shootout in my opinion.

i bought my 2011 in July i got 3.99 percent fixed for three years from Yamaha, you should see if they are still running the promotion and go through them. Your dealer makes more money going through a private bank and banging you on interest, when i bought my first new Yamaha in 2009 the dealer i went through told me i couldn't get a Yamaha card, which surprised me cause i have good credit. i went to another dealer and got it and i was told they just wanted to sell me a higher rate and didn't even try through Yamaha.

Agreed... You could spend significantly less for something with a little seat time on it

Or save your money and just pay cash for something in a year or two

I hate debt
