IMHO a worn 84-85 XR200R/250R is an unreliable money pits. IMO the only things of value that can be used on your 200 is the front end (forks & disc brake) and the rear shock. Well maybe also the seat, tank, and plastic. Don't get involved with rebuilding the engine, Honda discontinued most parts and aftermarket parts are very difficult to find. Bid accordingly and ebay the rest.

Those two items will make your 200R like the 86-91 versions but with a slightly more ridged front end and a disc brake. (I have a 90 XR200R with a 84 XR250R front end and although the forks are the same travel as the 90 I feel the 250 forks are an improvement.)

What do you guys think? I'm on sched to see it tomorrow after work. I'm thinking just basis the pics and description it may not be too bad a deal.

Also, for the xr200, I got the chain on tonight and did some test rides around the yard. At first, I thought I definately screwed up by not opening up the clutch side b/c every time I put it in gear, she would just act like i was popping the clutch out and she'd stall. I was thinking the clutch was froze up. After about 10 stalls the clutch freed up ( at least that's what I think it was just stuck) and she rode and shifted well.

Tks Chuck. Didn't realize you had replied before I posted the link. I've been tossing around the idea to pickup a 1985 xr350 but have not found one very close by. This bike was really just to play with b/c I intend to get the 2000 xr200r to be something my wife can tool around on. She used to have a 1975 xr75 as a teenager. Its funny and sad b/c I had and still have a 1974 xr75. The sad part was mine didn't run so well. Anyway, not looking to change the 200, I think it would be fine for her like it is. I see you can still get Honda fenders and side cover plastics for the 200 so I may save the cash for that. Maybe a 2000/2001 xr400 would be a better choice for me since parts are still available.

Saw the xr250r tonight. I got it started and rod it a bit. He said he would take 450 for it. He also said he would throw in a 1985 suzuki dr250 for another $150. It ran with some kick work but a little smoky. Cleared up after a little running. The Zuk's wheel's/rims look brand new. Front end rebuilt and forks looked new. Not perfect by no means.

What do you guys think? I have to tell him yes/no tonight. That Zuk was a heavy bike.
Tks
Tom

Probably shouldn't have done it, but I picked up a couple more pigs. The guy needed to get rid of all his possessions due to a divorce and sale of residence. I agreed to buy both bikes for $600. At first he agreed to $450 on the Honda but then asked about the Suzuki DR250 if I wanted it. I just threw it out there "both bikes for $600" not thinking he would drop $200 on Zuki....but he did. Oh well, I think with some sprucing up....I may sell it for a little more dollars than the $150

I'm picking them up after work tomorrow. Anyone, need a DR250, I'll depart with it for $350. :bonk:

Sorry to hijack this thread, but a question for Chuck 4788 - what did it take to put the xr250 front end on your xr200? I've got a 99 xr200 and a guy is selling a front end and rear shock off an 88 xr250r. Will the forks fit in xr200 triple clamps? Will the xr250r triple clamps fit in the xr200 frame? I assume I'll need an xr250 wheel with the disc brake. My goal is to get a front disc brake on my xr200, better forks would be a plus also.

Thanks for any input.

The 250 triples bolt into the XR200, use the complete front end including brake, wheel, and forks. My conversion was a total transplant, and was a bolt on.

However the 86-95 XR250 shock is too long to use on the XR200 chassis. go for 84-85 XR200R/250R or a 86-91 XR200R shock, but you will need a mount for the reservoir. These shocks are unique with a reservoir hose about 12" long.
