I would like to powder coat my YZ426f triple clamps. Do I need to remove the steering stem before powder coating the lower clamp?

If so how do you remove it from the lower clamp? I have already removed the lower bearing.

Does your friend mask off the part that the tubes slide through? Grind them clean or what? Thanks
