Sorry for no updtaes for a while, I've been rebuilding an '85 XR350 for someone else.

I figure I need to put fresh fork oil in the new forks as they've been sat on the shelf for years.

Anyone know what the standard fork weight oil is in the forks from the factory or what weight oil to put in them, I weigh 160 pounds.

The riding I mostly do is tight technical interparsd with fast open trails on the mountains.

Apologies for the lack of updates guys, I've been full on with the 350 rebuild.

All I've managed to do so far to my 250 is fit the CR steering stem and add a grease nipple to the headstock :smirk:

I'll be moving along quicker with the 250 now the 350 is almost finished.

Pictures below are the 250 frame with CR stem and how the 350 is now but all that's left for the 350 is to fit the new front and correct rear fender, the XR Tripmaster speedo and correct decals. The headers on her now are the old ones painted up but I have a set coming from XRs Only which are gonna be ceramic coated and fitted later on.

Update

My engine is on the bench, gotta break it down completely and redo a couple of casing threads, got a new barrell, cylinder head, valves and rocker cover to put on and as I've just taken tentative steps in powdercoating, gonna powdercoat the casesand other bits :bonk:

I fitted the forks today and as I want to keep the use of the XR speedo drive on the front wheel, I've sent the CR wheel spindle off to be lathed.

Thanks buddy!  Pressed out the stem from the CR item and then lathed a new stem the same length as the old XR one and pressed that in. Didn't need spacers. I haven't rode her yet, sorting out registration for road use.

I think black fork guards would look good on it if you can't match the red.  Otherwise, sweet bike, nice job!

Nice job!  Did XR's Only start making 85 headers again? They didn't for years.
I got the 83-84 headers they still offered a few years ago and man was that a PITA to install!
Didn't think they would be that different.
