With all the drz125 conversions on here and the amount of questions asked about them, I think we need a thread about the parts. What worked, what didnt. Year make model ect... What parts were bolt on and what parts required a little modification. I know people can search the whole page, but i think this would make life easier. I found myself reading so many different things, that when i was done, I couldnt remember what worked and what didnt. I do not have any info to offer, but will in the next few months as i swap the suspension on my 03. I realize you guys that have done this already have answered a ton of questions already, but if we put it all in one thread, you might not have to do it in the future. :ride:

My Bike = 2007 DRZ125L
Front Forks and clamps = 08 RM85
Front Wheel = Stock DRZ L Wheel & Rotor
Front Brakes = 08 RM85 Dual Piston
The front end bolted right up with no major mods needed.. I am running the DRZ Fender & a RM85 Number Plate - It could use some new stops as the fork legs hit the tank on full turn...
Rear Shock = 08 RM85
Stock DRZ swinger/wheel/brakes
This did bolt up .. However my spring kisses the frame ever so slightly when the suspension is at full droop. (I also have a CannonRace Spring sprung for a Fat Guy) ... But the stocker did it too. I have read that others did not rub but from what I remember they were older models of the 85 shock that came with a slightly smaller spring OD. I don't remember the cut off year exactly but I think you want a 06 and down for that smaller spring.
I am pretty sure the CR85 shock bolts up and clears no matter the year...
I grinded off about 1/8" on each side of the top mount and mounted it with a washer on each side for a solid fit. Also noted is that the only way I can get the shock out is to take the preload all the way up so the shock will compress and drop enough out of the top mount to get it out of there.
Only real mod needed to the bike was to relocate the Chain Roller so the shock Resi would fit on the chain side of the bike. I cut it off and moved it to the peice of frame directly across from the original mounting spot. Welded it on and works good there.
Thats about all I got on the subject... Best handling bike I own :banana:

This is what I've got based on parts numbers research.
X indicates any, blank indicates no cross or unresearched and anything else is a note for specific years/sub models. Should be valid for 2009 and earlier.

Does anyone have any info on where to look to find out specs on specific parts? I am wondering if a 98 rm 85 front end will fit on my drz.
I also put an 02 kx 100 shock on my drz and it bolted right in.

2002 KX 100 rear shock is not a total bolt in. In standard resevoir on right the resevoir will hit the exhaust. Rotated 190 deg. (resevoir on the left) KX 100 shock resevior does not clear the DRZ upper chain roller. You must cut and weld relocate the upper chain roller to the rear subframe strut for the reevoir to clear.

Here is what I've got.
03 drz 125L
09 kx 100 front end
02 kx 100 shock
The 09 front end bolted right on to the frame of the drz. There were a couple minor issues. The kx forks were wider than the drz forks, since I stayed with the drz front wheel I had to have my friend machine a couple new spacers. Also since the kx front end was wider I had to buy a kx 100 front axle. If I remember right the kx 100 axles are the same from 2000-2012, I'm not 100% on that, but it was the same for many years. I also used the drz caliper, which mounted to the forks a little different than the kx caliper. All I needed was some longer bolts to get the drz caliper to bolt on.
The previous poster was right about the shock. I had forgotten about the chain roller at the time. I also had to shim the top mount of the kx 100 shock as it was about 1/4" smaller than the drz shock. I used a washer on each side to get it to snug up in the frame.
