KTM 200 EXC 2000 or 2006 model?

im looking to buy a KTM 200 exc.

found a 2000 model autolube for a good price and also a 2006 model for a good price too.

im a novice rider and am wonder is there any major difference bewteen the two?

i know suspension has changed etc but the motor seems similiar for years?

also what hp is the 2000 auto lube compared to the 2006 model? is it was slower?

Are they sold as street legal bikes over there,hence the oil injection on the 2000? If I were buying one to use as a main mode of transport around town,I would have to really consider the convinience of the auto lube. It would be nice to just pull up to the gas station and stick the hose in the tank,fill the oil tank,and be on my way. If I was just using it off road I would go with the 06. Not that tough to mix gas in the garage.

Personally, If the prices are similar, I'd get the newest year I could find. Frame geometry and suspension gets better as they are developed. Plus it will have a better resale value when it's time to move on to the next bike.

prices are different, the 2000 is road legal, 1000 euro. 2006 in not road legal 1800 euro.

all my riding is off road in woods, forests, mountains, also paln to do a few enduros on it. the ktm wont be used on the road at all.

im getting rid of my current bike yz250 06 as its to much for the woods. would the 2000 model be good enough for what i need?

as i said above im only a novice and probably wouldnt feel the suspension difference on the newer model.

i got a spin of a 2006 model yesterday and it was lovely to drive.

I am not sure if the autolube bike is the same as what we had here but other than frame and suspension setup the 2000 has a 38mm carb and the 06 a 36mm carb. Most folks think the older motors with the bigger carb are a bit more powerful while the newer bikes are smoother and a bit more torquey. I have never ridden a 36mm carbed bike so I cant say from personal experience and the autolube bike may be very different than what we get here.

06 still has the 38mm carb.

from most research ive done on the web, the auto lube was only available here from 2000-2002 then they were all premix after that.

I own the US equivalent to the 06 200 exc,and I love it. Mine is set up to have a noticeable midrange hit,but it runs clean and pulls my 225 pounds even when it's not on the pipe. It rarely stalls,even in the tight stuff and it's light enough that you can make it go anywhere you want it to. One of the greatest compliments I've gotten was from a guy riding behind me commenting about how I never put a foot on the ground. A lot of that has to do with the bike. It is so controllable that you can get out of trouble without dabbing a foot. Just yank it the direction you need it to go and maybe fan the clutch and away you go. I don't know anything about the 2000,but IMO you can't go wrong with the 06 if the price is right.

simple enough, buy the newest you can afford, that is in the best condition.

problem is the newest one has been sold, :smashpc: i rang this morning.

the only 2 for sale in all of ireland is the 2000 for 1000 euro or another i found that is 2003 for 1595 euro in a garage - very expensive i think ?

can anyone shed some info on the 2000 model? id be happy enough to buy it and the money i save i will then put it into the bike to improve it.

Well what do you want to know? The 200s didn't change much just little things here and there. What are you looking for specifically?

i know there are not many major differences but its seems the 05-07 shape is the better one to get. in 08 the frame gets bigger.

im worried the 2000 model may be a bit bulker than the newer model?

i basically want the lightest model 200, the weight of the bikes is something i struggle with, hence why im selling on my yz 250.

maybe the 2000 model will do fine, maybe im just being fussy and looking at it with the attitude: ah its 11 years old, i should get something newer
