Well hello to anyone still following this...lol. Here she is! All done except some leaks, see my new post in here cause i need some help.

ok so i didn't get much done...lol. i did how ever try and replace the front wheel bearings but i guess i need a press cause i can't get the new bearings in I put the forks on and the headlight, toss

ok got my forks rebuilt tonight... new bushings and seals, hopefully the right amount of oil cause yamaha marks it by mm instead of oz's, i put 16 in it (half the bottle...lol) my MMI buddy was there and said go ahead if it blows the seals it blows them :smashpc: hopefully it doesn't though.

I say fire your MMI buddy:bonk:

Do it right - it's clearly spelt out in the manual.

BTW, would you mind sharing your source for the black plastic?

I just got the side panels and fork guards black... Side panels were motosport clearance, I think only 3 left now.

Mind telling me what your manual says???

I replaced my 99's front and rear wheel bearings last fall, getting ready to do it again here this fall... didn't need a press... if you take a block of wood and lay it against the bearing you can tap it in with a mallett... at least that's what I did. :smashpc:

I loved my old wr 400 until it was stolen by some scrot. I still think of as one of the best bikes i owned. Its good to see all your hard work coming together.

that sucks man... thats how i got into the WR400 was my brand new 2005 Suzuki Z400 was stolen and i didn't have insurance plus i paid cash so i had no fall back at all, buddy of mine had it at work and wanted a new one so i bought it from him.

Well I just got back from a really long weekend away and just tossed on the body work real quick to check it out

Clutch cable goes through there. I was scratching my head for a while over that one too.

thanks ? this is going pretty slow as i'm getting pissed at my lack of help... got the new bearings in the front wheel finally and i'm going to try and true it tomorrow. Trying to figure out what finish on my swingarm too

Hi there - just wanted to say what a great job you're doing on the WR. I bought one which needed some work - the guy I bought it from did an enduro, it stopped and he never got it started again !! So he left it in a shit state over winter with a view to start it again in the spring ... which turned into summer .... then he decided to sell it !!

Got a good deal and I've been busy removing parts, cleaning, refitting etc etc etc.

I have a question while you're getting round (get-it) to the front wheel ....

Mine has a speedo drive on the r/h/s with a single spacer on the l/h/s - however when I come to put the spindle there does not seem to be enough spacing to take up the distance between the forks .... in other words the wheel can still move sideways ..... Am I missing a spacer somewhere or could it be that the speedo drive is incorrect ?

If you could possibly show me your set-up (or at least describe it) I may be able to work it out !

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work - will be well worth all the hours ................ and remember not to let your brother have it afterwards ;o)

Hi - there's no spacer on the speedo drive side.... :ride:

The speedo drive sits nicely within the guides on the inside of the fork (to stop it from turning) and then sits up against the speedo drive (to ensure it drives the speedo gearing).

Having said that - when it is all pushed across to the left (when viewed from in front) the wheel definately does seem to be TOO FAR over to the left and leaves a gap outside the spacer on the right side :worthy:

Would appreciate any other input or pics of what I should have there - when you get a chance. ?
