I have loved looking over everyone's build threads and gaining information on these bikes I.E 2002-2007 Cr250R's.:)

Here is a little back ground info to explain how i obtained the bike. My name is sev and i have been riding a motocross for about 7 years no i started on a Rm80 moved to a 96 Cr125r then a 2002 Yz250 and to a 2004 cr125r witch is the bike i traded for this 2002 cr250r. I am a top 4 B level rider in my local area and have a passion for racing Mx. ( I would of been a pro if my perents got me a bike a 4 haha):);)

I put about 3 k into my Cr125r in the last 3 years getting it up to speed to race and keep up with the ever faster 4 strokes 250's. I  had the motor build by a shop in west Virginia  (lava let cycles) to a 134 wiseco gp piston, port/polished, pro-circuit pipe,r-304 silencer, ext, ext, ext. lets just say it had all of the bells and Whistle's. But i never re-valved the suspension .

So i saved some money for a new bike i was looking for a rm or yz of 05 and newer but could not find any in my price range. Seen alot of nice 05 and 06 CR to but could not afford it at the time. Until i can acrossed a ad in craigslist for a young kid wanting to trade a stock 2002 cr250 for a 03+ 125.:)

So i drove 6 hours one way to get the bike and this is how i picked her up. The guy who owned the bike had no fricking idea how to ride and work on his bikes. no axle nut, loose-ist chain i have ever seen... ever! loose sprocket, and the icing on the cake the rear wheel and front tire where bald as a baby's ass. and the rear wheel had never had the spokes tighten's up so they all had about a inch of play in them.

So agenst my gut i got the bike and traded my mint.. no Super mint 125 for it.;)

So i got it home and disassemble the bike to the bare frame( BTW i am very Mechanically inclined)

So my goal is to race at Wide Open MX on Oct. 9th in B class with this bike so i have a short time to get her up to speed to ride. Im not trying to get everything on my list done, just what i need to be competitive.

List of things to do! * = need before race. everything els is a want after.

[x] = Done     [ ] = not done

1. Suspension [x]  $1300  **
2. Rear wheel rebuild [ ]   $150 -Sponsor :) **
3. TT Kehlin pwk air striker  [ ] $240  **
4. Tires MS3 or Arttacks     [ ] $150 or $90 **
5. Piston/Rings Wiseco GP   [ ] $200 w/ gaskets + TiNi coated Ring **
5. Polish up ports              [ ]  Free99
6. New reeds                    [ ]  $150
7. Plastics/graphics           [ ]  $250
8.  Foot pegs                   [ ]  $50
9. And more maybe.

This is my goal and i will do my best to get everything i need to race. I would love to hear some ideas of what you all have done to your bikes and how it affected the performance.

I will get some pics up soon of it being taken apart and how she looked when i picked her up!!! thanks

I own a 2000 cr250r , I have had it since it was pretty much new. Alot of bikes have come and gone but this one has never left my hands. I have ridden many other 2 bangers and I just love how this bike feels, turns like a champ , feels really light compared to most other bikes , and with pro circuit pipe and silencer , force 3 reeds , airstriker , uni air filter and a few other goodies it rips! I can short shift it and it actually feels like it has bottom end unlike most 2 strokes. Although lately I have been thinking about getting a 06-07 cr250 ? Good luck with your build , sounds fun.

Greasing up the new head set bearings. Bel-ray water proof grease is the shit, best stuff i have ever worked with as far as lasting the longest and does not wash out as easy when you pressure wash you bike!.

I have the rear wheel being sent to KSR wheel as we speak and the Suspension should be arriving from FCR suspension any day now!!

Bike looks to be in pretty good shape, actually.  I know it must've been hard trading a mint 125 for it (especially after dumping all that $ into it!), but I don't think it looks that bad.  Still has the stock pipe and it looks clean!  Judging by the tires, somebody just rode it on the street so it probably has seen an "easy" life.  I don't have anything to add about the bike since I've never owned one, but it looks like you're off to a great start by going through it, greasing, and replacing maintanence items..

Hope you get it ready for your race and keep the posts/pics coming!!

Hey i must say it is the best. Its super sticky and does not run off when you spray wd-40 and water on it. and it last longer so you only have to do it once or twice a season !!! haha thanks for looking at the post.:)

Posted ImageLook how clean this thing is it has the stock piston and Bottom end! Its 9 years old and still pumps about 180 PSI all day of compression. I wonder what the new Wiseco GP will bump it up to?

You might want to apply some clear plastic over the frame where the shroud rubs. There ave been some cases where it wore all the way through the frame.

I've installed a rad valve, I had a v-force but the reed pedels frayed in less than 40 hrs.
The rad valve provided more low end.
Eric Gorr port job worked great, that why I bolted on a 10 oz. fly wheel weight
Air striker carb
next I will do the head mod.
Dicks racing suspension.
Bike rips

Wow i always wondered about that with my cr125r but never thought it would. I will do so now Thanks!! I'm going to work on the cosmetics of the bike after the race, plastics, graphics, seat cover, and 09 front fender with stadium plate.:smashpc: Than i will do the head mod and some porting. I do my own! And all of my friends  bikes for a small profit.
