17 yamahas
6 hondas
5 suzukis
5 ktms
7 kawis
pala national 2011 this is how many of each bike there was. 2011 yamahas must not be that bad when there are that many pros on one.

More likely Yamaha's contingency is a little better than the other manufacturer's programs.

that's interesting, I don't remember seeing anywhere near that many yamahas, but the results prove it.

Go Blue!

The real reason is that in recent documentation blue #5 plastic dye wieghs 3grams lighter per ounce than all other dyes.

The reason there are so many probably is the contingency.

It is sometimes misleading to look at results, Yamaha does not have as close to a factory team (in terms of riders or factory support) as the other 4 brands:
KTM Factory
Factory Honda
Rockstar Suzuki
PC/Monster Energy Kawasaki

So they are not going to compete as well at the top of the class (notwithstanding the level of factory support, in fairness Brayton is not going to compete with the likes of Villopoto, Reed, Dungey, Alessi and Barcia week in week out).

It's interesting though that some of the less well known Yamaha riders, who will be racing not much more than stock bikes, are making top 20's. 7 bikes in the 10th to 20th range are Yamaha.

And, in fairness, any of those riders would win on whatever they rode.

It should also be mentioned that the bikes ridden by the consistent top 5 or 6 or 7 riders bear fairly little resemblance to the machine that originally came out of the crate. Money in cubic dollars goes into the modification and support of these things. Their answer to setting the valve clearances is often to replace the engine with a fresh one.

That Yamaha is chosen by so many people who have to pay for most of their own stuff and don't have as much money to do it with as the big teams speaks perhaps less to its effectiveness as a winning race tool than to its ability to be race worthy week after week without necessarily rebuilding it end to end for each event. If you look back 10 or 12 years, you'll see that this is not the first time privateers have massed around a particular bike. Back then, it was the YZ250, and mostly for the exact same reasons.

I have a vid of my LL qualifier from Broom-Tioga in '02, it was a sea of red bikes. In 03 and into 04 it was a blue wave heading out the gate.

Everyone ran out bought the CR450F in 02 and then all switched back after they found out how bad the CRF valve train and front handling was.:)
