Holy Spark Plugs Batman

Recommended Posts

I knew it would happen sooner or later. Some dork on the production line at Yamaha played a mean trick on me and put a special motor on my new WR450. This special engine has the spark plug hidden deep inside a cave in the center of the engine. I can only assume, like the batcave, that there is some secret to entering the cave to remove the spark plug, but I couldn't figure it out. The manual gives great instructions: (1) Remove spark plug.

Has anyone figured out the secret to entering the spark plug cave?

GrahamO,

Remove the seat and tank and use the special plug wrench that came with your new bike. This time use your tool set and NOT your lighter.

Now that's pretty funny. I almost ventured into the cave with a torch to see if I could find anything, but after several hundred yards I still hadn't found the top of the spark plug, so I turned around. I'm sure it's down there somewhere... way, way down there.

Re: the nifty wrench you all got with your bikes. I bought mine slightly used and am going to need to harrass the seller for the wrench. Anything else useful come in the tool pack?

You can borrow mine if you show me how to change the oil in my '01.... ?

That shouldn't be too dificult:

(1) Punch a hole in you gas tank, covering your bike in gasoline.

(2) Throw a lit match at, preferably from a distance.

(3) Now you don't have a reason to change it. Buy a WR450.

But I can't put a plate on the 450 otherwise I would have....

Believe me, I have only had the bike 2 months, and have had more than 1 occasion to say !@#!@#$%ing kick start....

I know the feeling. If my 426 was hot I'd push start before kick start. Two ironic things... (1) the e-start ain't that great. The kick start is so easy now the e-start is a waste of weight (2) My 426 would have whipped my 450 in a race. It was YZ timed with Race Tech suspension and jetted perfectly. Bad A$$... once you got it started.
