I am thinking of getting a WR 250 and have several questions about battery life etc...
1. How long does the battery hold a charge? Does the motorcycle have a generator that charges it up fully or do you have to put it on a charger?
2. How long does the battery last before you have to get a new one? Every year?
3. Is the battery a regular cell battery or is it a gel battery because of all of the action going on?
4. What is the price of a new battery?
All minor concerns, not a deal breaker or anything, I am just curious. Any problems, tips, or feelings  about batteries please let me know. Thanks.

exactly the same battery KTM has used on the 400/450/520, know of many that have lasted 3 yrs on KTM, should do the same on Yamaha. A few hints for long life.
ONLY use a battery tender or small trickle charger to charge the battery if run down. A car battery charger will toast the battery big time in a few minutes.
Get the small battery tender and use it to charge the battey if you don't ride for a month or so, otherwise no problem.

It is NOT a gell cell. it is a sealed starved electrolyte battery. when it comes time to replace it there is a battery with over double the cranking amps, 6AH capacity vs. 5 from the same mfg. for <$10 more. it weighs about 8 oz more and is physically the same size. that's what to go for as a replacement. expect to pay about $70.

My battery was working great until I left the starter circuit on one hot day. I attempted various resuscitation attempts the next day to no avail. I am now on the kicker until I feel like spending the $110 cdn and devise a system to prevent this from happening again (automatic low voltage shut off of some kind).

I left my starter button on for 2 days. Was the 1st time I had to kick it. Went up riding for a few hours. Killed it and low and behold the majic button works again. Have not had a problem with it since.

Mine has worked flawlessly. In fact, I'm a little surprised how well it has done. I have left my ignition switch on a few times. Once overnight and several times for many hours by mistake. I just hit the button and she fires up without hesitation. It has never even seemed weak. Very good battery/charging system. You have 0 worries.
