2007 WR450 Jetting Maybe?

Recommended Posts

Stock exhaust, no AIS, no snorkle, throttle stop removed, gray wire disco'd. I thought the bike ran well, starts first kick (if using electric need some throttle), idles fine, thought it had the power, until..........

I rode my buddies CRF450 and couldn't keep the front end down. His bike seems to have way more power off of idle than mine would ever think of. Even though mine runs fine, I am thinking jetting may be off, there is no way his Honda can have that much more power. Since jetting the WR is a pain, do you suggest buying the JD Kit and adjustable fuel screw, or is this going to take some experimenting? I don't know what is in their now, have not taken it apart yet since it was running so well. Any suggestions other than the JD Kit?

You have milder cams, more flywheel weight, and the stock exhaust isn't the most efficient. The WR was not designed to run like the mx engines, but it should run longer. Mine has more power than I need anyway.

CRFR or CRFX, the WR is not meant to keep up. It is more of a mule than a racer, out of the box. It can be turned into whatever you want.

The CRF also has a much lighter front end than the WR, even though the WR is lower weight overall.

If you don't know what the jetting is, assume it is wrong.

You say you have stock exhaust, and no snorkle, so this is already not right.

You can't uncork one end, and not the other.

The EASIEST way to get the bike to run like it should is to buy a JD jet kit, remote fuel screw, 50 leak jet, PMB exhaust tip, and merge racing Accelerator pump detent spring upgrade. Do all that to the carb, and the front end will stand up upon demand, every time.

Start with a JD kit if you want a proven setup. I recently picked up a lightly used '07 WR450 and the previous owner had the dealer install the AIS removal kit and the new jetting that comes with it as well as the "free" mods. He thought it ran great but I knew it could be much better. I bought the bike and the first thing I did was to order the JD kit and an R&D flex jet fuel screw and a Pro Moto Billit endcap for the stock exhaust. I followed the instructions for my elevation and the bike started immediately and after a slight fuel screw adjustment, it runs 100X better than before. I also have a WR 426 with the JD kit and it would run circles around the 450 before it got the JD kit too. I definatelty recommend going this route because the '07 and up WR frames are a PITA to work on. This is the reason you should also go with the R&D flex jet because the standard style is very hard to get to on this bike.

You can search around a find other jetting specs using stock needles and jets but it will most likely require more fine tunning to get it right.
