i do plan on doing over the paint after i get it running. i dont know who painted it or why but they were very sloppy not to mention the rig jobs they did to it. it had two coils when i got it one was original the other was off a 125. an they had some tubing hooked in front of the motor for god knows what. i have yet to find any remains of a kill switch. i got alot of work ahead of me an cant wait to get more parts.

I'll bet you can find a seat cover for it and DIY it to save a few bucks. Or get your wife to sew it from Naugahyde. Get Naugahyde brand if you do. I can't remember how they are secured to the old metal flip-up seat pans, just stapled to the plastic type. Paint job probably for the same reason as the "modifications" you found: stooooooooooopid :bonk: Hopefully you'll have a nice vintage bike soon :ride:

i decided to strip and sand the fenders down today. i got some stuff in a spray can thats made to strip paint off of flexible bumpers from the parts store. worked really good, i did some sanding after to try an smooth out some dings and scratches. hopen to paint them silver this weekend, unless i get money sooner.
Posted Image
the rear fender has a big crack that i am thinking about using epoxy and see if it will hold it together
Posted Image
Posted Image
the front one looks like it was driven threw some bushes or small branches
Posted Image
and the back of the front fender has a neat ding in it, kinda looks like a guy waving lol

wish i had the money to blast the frame, for now i will sand and spot paint it to get the rust off and clean up the blue over spray thats all over it. not sure what i am goin to do about the paint on the shocks. ill try to clean them up with paint thinner. i think as long as i dont go over board with it then it shouldnt hurt anything

i have resurrected two homelite super ez's a super 2 and am now working on two poulans and a homelite 240. been trying to stay buisy the last three months lol.
today i painted my tank and front fender. i didnt paint the rear fender because i forgot to get the epoxy to repair that crack. i am thinking about painting the stripes on rather then buying the decal kits. i also wanted to know whats the best way to clean up my rear shocks.

take them off . push the spring down a bit and that top cap that holds the spring on slides out . now the springs are off you can use some acetone or thinners on the damper rod. You can get as rough as you like with the springs once they are separated from the rest of the shock . sand blast , stripper , wire wheel ?

Take a couple of long screwdrivers and put them through the springs, Like A T with the l part of the t the shock and push down, you may need a spare hand to pull the cap.

well i got the shocks off and apart. not a very safe way of doing it. i tried the screwdrivers and bent them. so i used two big wrenches and almost lost a finger when i went to pull the cap. i tried to get my buddy to pull the cap out but he wasnt wanting any part of it lol. i use sand paper and got one spring done and the second one is about half done. i will work more on it as the night goes by. i used a razor blade an cleaned up the damper rod and the height adjuster. just need to sand the base of them and carefully repaint them. i also found an oil tank but it is 90 dollars. which i cant afford at the moment. i'm hoping to hear back from some salvage yards to get a cheaper one. i got the rear fender painted up so now i got to clear coat them and decide what i am going to do about the decals. ill post up some pics before i call it a night.

Yup, big springs are dangerous, even with the right tools. They can pack a wallop. Always count your finger when done working with them.

On the oil tank, you could just mix it until something comes along. I always took it off on my DT's. If you decide to not replace the tank, you'll probably want to go to a one piece throttle cable if it splits off to the pump.

Keep chuggin' along, you'll get there. Lookin' fwd to the next pics.

sorry i didnt post up the pics last night after i was done with cleaning my hands an door knobs it was late and i had to be up for my daughters bday party today. the oil tank i need it for the engine oil not the two stoke oil. its a small plastic tank that is under the seat in these. here is what it is unless i am mistaken an there is another way to get oil in the case.
Posted Image
if it is for the two stoke oil then i will be bypassing it. i dont have a service manual for this so iam guessing what is what. this is the most i have ever worked on a bike. cant wait to finish it. anyway here is were i stopped on the rear shocks i want to sand the spring a little more before i paint them

Is the pic of your hands to show us your gettin' dirty, or asking what to do next :smirk: Looks like you're down to just ten fingers now, better be careful. I had a cousin who lost his 12th finger and he was never the same with just 11  TG you didn't get hurt, that's where the fun stops.

Hey, you got that fender smoothed out real nice! It's amazing how much you can do on a budget with some determination and elbow grease! It seems all my projects take backseat to anything else financial. So I am always working on the cheap if I can.

On the manual, if you spend enough time googling it, you might find a pdf download. Seems like theres about 20 scam or false hits for each one with a real download, though. Even a "close" manual is helpful, just can't trust specs. Also keep an eye on fleabay and especially abe.com. Stuff can go real cheap on abe sometimes. I didn't have any luck for my red-headed stepchild sp250 at abe, but I got $100's worth of machinist's books there for 5 or 10 US pesos. It's like amazon, different sellers, no bidding. Cheaper than ebay. I did see manuals for other bikes.

i will check out abe and see what they have. i used to have a 84 sp250 my moms ex bf had the frame scrapped on me. i still have the motor and exhaust in my moms garage it needs a new head the one thats on it has a crack in it. the pic of my hands was to show how dirty i got. i had already washed them once.

Ha, mine looked about the same last night. Pulled off the exhaust and returned to stock. Little quieter, runs about the same on the short test drives, and looks a heck of a lot better. I'll post a pic in the "things people do to old bikes" thread later. Right now, off for a joy ride and see how she does out in the sticks. :ride:

i wanted to clear coat the tank an fenders today but the wind wont let off long enough. i tell ya the joys of a garage are inevitable. i think i am goin to start sanding the rust and blue spots off my frame. i wont have the paint till weds or thurs but i am having withdralls. my father inlaw has stuff to cover the seat an said he would help me but now he thinks i should just buy a different seat so it looks like i will be buying my own stuff to do it. i have an old couch thats getting ready to go to the dump so i am goin to patch the chunks of missing foam with some out of a cushion. i am also goin to call a few shops to have my rear shocks put back together.
