2 stroke riders unite. It takes alot more pose and endurance to ride a 2 stroke than it does on a 4 stroke. The powerband is crazy. You can't say that Yamaha doesn't make a good yz 125. Mines an 06 and it runs like a champ. I don't know what it makes as far as hp goes but I can guarantee its up there. The aluminum frames on them are nice and light, there's honestly nothing to complain about. Point being, yeah 4 strokes are more popular nowadays but if you don't want a ticking time bomb, go with a 2 smoker; grow a pair and get out there. Braaaapppp

I said the same thing when I was a young fella, and when I was 25, and by the time I was 30 I was tired of working on the dam things, put on my BIG BOY pants and bought a 4 stroke, never went back, never had to tear one of my 4 strokes down and replace pistons & cylinders, I'm a happy camper.
haha i would much rather do some more maintenance and change pistons often then have a 4 stroke.......when a 4 stroke blows up it breaks the bearings, most cases crank, head all the valves the piston, and if its really bad the cam, cylinder, rod and possibly crank cases. on a 2 stroke you get.....blown piston, maybe a little scarring on the cylinder.....but its bad enough breaks bearings crank and piston. you replace all that and have the cylinder and head re done for $600 tops. your thumper blows up your at least $1200 in the hole, i dont have he money to blow on that crap, im just a weekend warrior. plus 2 strokes sound so much better :banghead:

I think if The two strokes come back, hopefully we will see more rider's on the starting line.Seem's to me when the four stroke came into play the number of rider's started declining, and after a few year's I just gave up on taking my two son's to the races because it was'nt very entertaining to watch 7 or 8 guy's racing in the 250 class.

Coming back from where?  I wasn't aware that they went away.

I just got back in the two stroke saddle after 10 years of being away in four stroke land.  I love dirtbikes regardless of engine type, but for a smaller dude like me that is beginning to feel his age in the old bones and joints, you can't beat an electric start two stroke.

That being said, I will never get rid of my four stroke.  For relaxed pace trail riding it can't be beat.  However, once you cross over into race pace it is two stroke all the way!

the only reason the kato 2 strokes are updated is because they share the excat same frame with the 4 strokes........ 2 strokes are a niche market there will always be someone who wants them but not the masses

If some of the other manufactures were smart, they would definately bring their two stroke models back to the states.  Susuki isnt in the best shape, they need to sell bikes.  Can you imagine how many RM250's would be sold if they brought it back?  They could sell brand new RM250's for $5900 and be making a ton of money on each model sold.  Most of the manufactures bike sales are way down, and the two strokes from Yamaha and KTM sell out quickly.  Time for the other manufactures to up the supply and see just how big the demand really is for the two strokes.

At our local KTM dealership they have 08 and up ktm250f's and 450f's still and some out back in crates.  I have never seen a 150sx or 250sx on the floor and they always tell me I will have to order one and wait if I want one.
Suzuki would be the best served company by bring back their 2 strokes to the US.  They haven't stopped selling them abroad so it would be easy for them.

Umm... Ok...  I guess that's why KTM sold almost 40,000 2 strokes last year.  This year they made 45,000 to try and keep up with demand. That's one hell of a niche market.  Seems to me that is more than Suzuki and Kawasaki sold combined for all bikes in 2011.  There are as many, if not more 2 strokes on the starting line of most offroad racing (besides mx) series.

FI will bring the 2t back stronger than ever, of that I'm convinced... I for one can't wait for it, the one complaint I have with 2t's is that they are very finicky about jetting and elevation/temp changes.

Funny thing is KTM has had a DI setup for the past few years but said they won't release it until emissions laws force them to.  according to the information I have read it will come out on their offroad bikes first and mx bikes to follow.

Not so true.  Suzuki and others stopped selling 2 strokes because they weren't making any money on them.   If a full production run and increased supply couldn't support huge profits at $5900, then no way a reduced price and reduced production runs would yield a higher margin.

KTM sells more 2 strokes these days in large part because the others don't.  Even still KTM does a real good job of controlling how many they make.   Its not like you see an abundance of yz250's showing up to dealer floors either. They on make what they think they can sell.

the two stroke market is what it is and is probably all it can really be.

buy a KTM 2 stroke if you must have one.  they have shown a real committment to the "niche" market.

They weren't selling then because everyone was hopping on the 4 stroke bandwagon.  Also AMA amateur rules wouldn't allow 250 2t in the 250 class at that point in time.  That was then...
My choice will be a KTM simply because they stuck with it but it would be nice to have options.  Atleast give the yz250 some updated looks.

Yes, KTM did stick with it, as did Husky.   yamaha is just holding what they got.

Its always better when we have more choices.  The Japanese mfg in particular do not focus enough on offroad bikes.   There's good money there.
