How much is my pig worth?

Recommended Posts

I have just done a overhaul on my 1998 XRL and am ready to sell it.

What is it worth?

People are selling low mileage ones areound here for $4000 to $5000, and one with 11,000 miles for $2700, but it looks like crap.

It does have higher mileage, (20,000 miles) but it was primarily used as a backroads explorer, not a punching bag. The engine doesnt smoke or burn oil.

It did need new brake pads, wheel bearings, chain, front sprocket, and that stupid black paint stripped off all its plastics before I could even stand to look at it. The plastics are scuffed from a lay-down, but it is just cosmetic and you can only see that close up. Thankfully they are back to white again. I also put on fresh rubber. I am going back to school and need to sell it. Ims tank and Dynojet are the only modifications.

$2200 if your lucky.:ride:

I bought my 2000 xrl with 3200mi on it about a month ago for $2500 and it is in near perfect condition.:ride:

Sadly repairs and upgrades have no bearing on the bikes value.

KBB says $2060 in excellent condition.

The bigger question is what can you get some to pay. Starting high is always a good idea. ?

He lives in Canada...the prices are much higher than in the states. I got my 03 cr 125 for 2500 and that was pretty damn good :ride:

No kidding. I just sold it for $2600 to a Motorcycle mechanic. He thinks he can re hone the jug, put new plastics on it and flip it for $3800.

My advice: if you want top dollar for your pig, come up to Alberta (the texas of Canada) for a vacation on it and fly home with the profits. I made a $500 profit on this bike. We have some lovely scenery and some ok trails, and guys with more money than brains.

Are those bikes actually selling, though? Based on the prices and condition of other bikes on your local market, I would list it at $3000 and see if anything bites.

Why is that? It's certainly not the current exchange rate. Maybe it's what I call "The Australia Effect" where Honda XR prices are 50%+ higher than most other locales for no obvious reason. ?

It's because when you are in the middle of a forest and the nearest house is a bear den you want an XR between your legs.:ride:

Last march, I spotted an '06 XRL with 8K on it on Craigslist. The guy was asking $3000, but took $2200. Never been crashed or layed down, but needed a new battery and the carb de-gummed, but it had a new set of Avon Distanzias on it, so I guess I did ok.

I just bought a 07 650L with 2500 miles. Included an extra set of wheels and tires, Clark tank, Dave's mods, aftermarket exhaust, extra carb off an R, throttle linkage, plus two tubs full of OEM take offs for $3150. ? It had a tiny oil leak that the dealer has been working on for 4 weeks. They keep miss-diagnosing it. :ride:

Can't wait to ride it.

It's because when you are in the middle of crack land and the nearest house is a meth den you want an XR between your legs. :D

Ohhhh.....as a Californian, I think I understand.

:D

Exactly... ?

You must also mean when the forest fire/mud slide is coming fast you want an XR between your legs... :D

Or like when California starts to fall into the Ocean you want an XR between your legs... :D

I've been through the fire/flood/mudslide part(in rapid succession, no less), but I don't plan to be here when Nevada becomes a coastal state.

That must have sucked... :ride:

At least you have the ability to escape when the roads become parking lots as $hit hits the fan. ?
