2011 YZ450F What else is needed with an exhaust

If I bought this exhaust what else is needed? Do I really need a PC III or V?.

No, you will be able to run that exhaust with no further mods. Test it stock and then decide if you like to powerband or not. The Yamaha Powertuner is a great tool (even though limited) and more than most riders will ever need for tuning the engine to their liking. It allows simple and quick trackside changes.

Chiming in on this thread . . . NO, I would buy a slip-on only, nothing else!

That's what I did, and I can't believe what a diff that made. It added a lot of high-rpm power, and took away just a tad of the off-idle abruptness.

Just what I was looking for.

What exhaust did you go with?

Jay Marmont map. Once I get my exhaust on I will see if it still works great, and tweak and try changes out to see if it matters.

Your experience with slip ons is consistent with my buddies who ride.

The old adage how fast do you want to go=how much money do you have fits kind of fits the header question. Between the two I would go with a slip on over a header but if I had the moola I would go for a complete system.

It was actually the 08 and 09 YZ450Fs that had the "ice cream cone" mechanical muffler that really robbed power. 10s and 11s went back to conventional type mufflers.

The '08-'09 was not restrictive; just the opposite, in a sense. It was too big to be effective with an unrestrictive muffler in place.

In the case of the '10+, the header is perfectly fine as is, and all that's needed is a muffler of the right length and core size. That's why MRD doesn't build (or charge for) a full system for the bike.

Gray is spot on , the 08/09 header was oversized to add volume for the exhaust to escape into to compensate for the baffeled muffler ( not a good design IMO ) so when you just add a slipon to those bikes you are giving up some lowend because of the large dia. of the header

So if I bought the Yosi slip-on for this bike what else is needed (Power Commander?)
