The difference between an 85 and ttr 125 is huge, and even greater to the 125. At 5'4" your on the smaller side for a 125, but on the bigger size for an 85. Just get the 125 and grow into it.

The Yz 125 IS the tallest 125 out there. If you've been riding for 10 years as you said, and you want to race MX, then go ahead and get the YZ 125 and install a YAMALINK lowering link so it won't be toooo intimidating. If you are not racing MX and just doing trails or free riding, why not consider a CRF150? The "R" version should be more than enough for you to do both MX or trail.

Go the KX100. Will fit you perfect, and good power. More power than a 85 and more linear due to the powervalve. A 125 is a pretty big step from the TTR power wise and is going to be tall for you to boot.

same thing with me. First bike was a ttr125 and i only had that thing for like month till i was done with the messed up suspension and absolutely no power. Went to a 05 yz125, i was around 5'4'' or 5'5'' and couldnt reach the ground very well. on trails when it got rough i would just stand cause if i started going down, i was going down. You'll get used to the power just dont get to crazy. things you can do is suspension, cut out seat and maybe even lower the suspension

if you ride track, a 125 might be alright, if your a trail rider, you got some technical terrain, some hills, a 125 is NOT for you, they fall outta the powerband and are done, id say go the 4 stroke route, you can always hop on a Yz450f or something he he.... as i say, just because the powers there, does not mean you have to use it all......

but i should also say, even on a track i found a 125 horrible, i know the 250's are much better as they have more lower end power and grunt, but even then a 250 just dont compare around here to a 4 stroke 450...., also, a Yz250f would be a better choice then a 125, no mixing, straight fuel in the tank, and really, cheaper all around,

im 14 yrs old and 5'5 and i have and yz85, i think you should get a 125 because you will be able to grow into it, my yz85 is starting to get a bit small for me at 5'5. i rode my cousin cr125 today and i can touch the floor on my tippy toes so it wont be too big for you.

but if you get a yz85 make sure you get a big wheel

I don't know were around here is for you, but 2 strokes dominate the woods here in BC. Go to an offroad race, 80% 2 strokes.

It may need a bit of gearing change but I rode a 125 in the woods and did pretty well. You may stall a bit but at least they are easy to pick up and start.

He's right, you'll probably stall a lot and drop it quite a bit initially. You'll need to be aggressive right off the bat. The MX'ers have very light flywheels and don't idle very well in tight woods situations. You may want to add a small flywheel weight to keep things moving, and the lowering link so you can still dab a foot if need be. You're looking at a couple hundred extra $$ for that....

or,

Get a gently used KX 100, ride it for a season, then sell it for what you bought it for next year and move up to a 250.:ride:

Any hill you can climb with a 450, you can with a 125. IF you know how to use the clutch. I dont race but i am planning on getting a membership to my local track this summer. I would go ahead and get a 125. When i got mine, i was 5'6.

:ride: WHAT?

To the OP: Coming off a TTR I'm going to assume you're a trail rider. If this is so, don't go with either. The 85 and 125 lag in the lower power band and you will have a heck of a time riding on trails. If you really must get a race bike but do a lot of trail riding... maybe consider a 250 4t? You're 13 and already 5'4", so you'll grow out of a kx100 pretty quick. I'm your size and I do alright on my 250, I wish it was a bit shorter but I'm done growing. 5'4" is a very tough height to fit a bike... thank gosh KTM and Kawi make 100's. I wish I could treat myself to a bike that size but it's just not enough engine for high altitude riding.
